Can't find DIVIDE SURFACE command

I'm new to revit so forgive any dumb questions, but ... I've created a Mass family, an elipse dome, and when loading it into my project, I just can't find the command to "divide surface". I've looked at every tutorial available on the matter, where it is there, it's not on my interface.

This is what I always get, and whenever I look for it, I can't find it, not even in Editing the family itself.

I know this must be so silly, but I'm losing my mind and I really need it as soon as possible.

You have to divide surface in the mass environment, not after loaded it in a project. Same goes for in place mass, divide it in the in place editing mode.

Thank you, but that's just the first thing I tried. The command just isn't there.

Wait a minute, you are drawing a Generic Model family. Divide surface only available for Conceptual Mass. You need to redo it using Conceptual Mass family template.

I tried that too. I needed to build the form in the drawing there, a dome on an eliptical base, but I couldn't do it in Conceptual Mass - no Revolution -, so I tried both in Autocad and then import in dwg - the mass disappears when I partially explode it to be able to divide its surface - and in the family Generic Metric Model - I don't know how to load it in the Conceptual Mass file.

But anyways, I saw in a lot of tutorials that it is possible to divide surface directly on the project template. I even managed to do it once, with another dome I made, only I can't remember how.

Actually, if the family starts with the generic model adaptive template, it will be by classified by default as "generic model" and it can have divided surfaces.

The issue seems to be that @Anonymous created the object in AutoCAD, inserted it in a generic model family template (not the adaptive template), and exploded it, inserted that in a project, etc.

You can create a form using revolve in a mass. See screencast below.
