Hello all,

In a previous job I remember there being an elevation type that creates Frame Elevations.

I am attempting to replicate that. I would like to create elevations for Doors, Windows, and Curtain Wall glazing. What settings would I need to create in my View Template and Filters? Anything else that I would need to create in this elevation type?

What you remember is The structural framing elevation from the elevation view dropdown. I don't think it has anything to do with door and window frame elevation. Do you want to create door and window elevation legends?

Doors and windows, legend views for sure.

Curtain walls, I used to do elevations and filter out everything but curtain wall elements using VV/VG to start. Then use the sunglasses to isolate the elements just to be sure. A very manual process as I would need to create and track a lot of elevations. When things changed, I needed to check and adjust view crops and extents and make sure no new curtain walls get into the view.

I would try using assemblies if I needed to do it again. You can't add curtain walls or grids to assemblies, but you can select the mullions and panels which give shows everything you need for a legend.

I do use Assemblies for Curtain Walls legend and it works wonder. Keep in mind that Mullions and and Panels can be added to an assembly, but not the Curtain wall itself.

When you use actual elevations for your legends, you want to create them in a detail phase. This phase would be demolished before the Existing Phase. That way nothing shows up when your users start modeling a new project.

This works for generic elevations and details, if you need actual project details I use a future phase. That way the elevation bugs don't show up on my plans all over the place.

Thank you, all. What I had experienced (and want to duplicate here) is that you place an elevation tag and it spits out an elevation. I am not talking about Legends, because we also need to create elevations of curtain walls.

The approach that I am experimenting with is an elevation type, controlled by view template that only displays Doors, Windows, Curtain wall stuff, and Walls (to show the Curtain Walls - other wise nyet), and possibly a filter to filter out regular walls and leave Curtain Walls visible.

You can duplicate an existing elevation type and make a new one that automatically applies a view template when created. Then in the view template apply V/G overrides to turn off visibility of all categories except windows, doors, and curtain walls.

Make sure you filter our (Curtain) Walls and Curtain Grids. Only Mullions, Panels, Curtain Wall Doors, and Curtain Wall Windows should be selected when create Assembly.

If you end up using elevation with filter for Legend, make sure users don't accidentally move or modify what on the Legend because it is the actual part of your model. Using Assembly, it's almost bullet proof. You cannot delete or move the assembly from the view, only from the Assembly browser. And deleting Assemblies from the browser doesn't affect the original source model.
