How create an elevation that is a shadow study of proposed works on a neighbour?

Hi World,

How can I create an elevation looking away from proposed works towards a neighbour, accurately showing the proposed works shadow on the neigbour?

Place a camera between your building and the neighbor and change the camera view to orthographic.

Thanks @ToanDN . To view the neigbhour a crop box is required and then the cropped out object no longer cast the shadows. Any work arounds?

I am not clear why you need to apply a scope box. Can you show a site plan with the buildings?

Toggling to orthographic mode reveals all objects. The only way to see desired objects (shown in the perspective mode) is to crop everything that is drawn before it.

Still hoping for a response, I drew this quick sketch plan. North up the page (southern hemisphere).

Shadow cast on neigbour's north facing wall. Need an elevation of that wall and accurate shadow.

Red indicating camera placement, set to orthographic.

Why does it have to be a camera? Model the neighboring building, place an elevation looking at it (View tab - elevation).

Thanks @Blank.. I haven't been able to achieve accurate shadows from the proposed using an Elevation. Can you explain how that may be done?

Difficult to say, check if your location and building elevation are correct (actual real world above sea level elevation).

Thanks @Blank.. The levels etc are accurate.

In perspective views the shadows are accurate.

The issue seems to be that elevations don't include objects behind the view.

This seems to be a Revit limitation. I'm hoping others can verify the issue.

Seems like you're right. Elevation placed in front of one object doesn't "see" shadows that it should cast.

The only workaround I could think of is to select the front object and set its transparency to 100. Not sure how useful that would be if the object is complex enough.

I thought to go to transprency too. It may be one solution.

Transparency could be one path.

To make it even harder, ideally, I'd dash the proposed windows in the foreground (behind the camera).

Easily done in the old manual drawing days.
