Joined column with wall - wrong filling

Hello everyone!

I need your help...as i´ve been trying to solve this issue for some hours without success...and i´ve read lot of similar posts but mine doesnt work...

So, in order:

- I have a structural (not architectural) column joined to a wall, and in the "fine detail view" looks good.

- I need to show the plans in a "coarse detail view" (grey=walls, black=columns), so I set the properties of the wall to grey in coarse level. I want to do the same for the columns, but as its not possible, I duplicate the material of the column and change the section filling to black. So in "fine detail view", the wall is still detailed, while the column is black.

- I set the plan view to "coarse detail"...and the structural column, instead of being black takes the grey of the wall. The wall has materials of priority 4 and 5, so this is not the problem.

- I try to "change join", but it just works on "fine detail" view, not in "coarse detail" view (still both grey).

- I enter into the structural column family and look for the option "Automatically joins geometry to walls", but it does not appear (as its structural and not architectural) - its in german, but still doesnt appear.

- If I disjoin the column and the wall, in "coarse" view it looks good (finally!), but back to "fine" view they are overlapping.

What am I doing wrong?

Joined elements then share the same line weight and fill pattern. It's a pain in the butt for me sometimes too.

Is there no way to solve this? Should not the structural column have priority over a no-structural wall?

I´ve read many old topics about this with different solutions, like the option "Automatically joins geometry to walls"...but I cant find it...

Your welcome. But as far as a workaround goes; VG Element Overrides and Linework Tool is what I use to mitigate this join behavior. It's a pain. I've posted (more like complained) about it before.

In the Visibility/Graphic Override set the value for Detail Level for the Structural Columns Category to Medium or Fine, and you get the material color back. You can then also override the Cut Pattern to make it solid black.
