Spot Slope annotation offset in sections

Hi all,

Has anyone run across the issue of spot slopes not offsetting properly from their references?

Typically when I place a spot slope I'm able to move it off the element I'm dimensioning (i.e., roof or floor) so that you can read it- but Revit currently will not let me do that at all, when I move the arrow it loses its slope annotation and I get an error message - see attached images.

Doesn't seem to pay any attention to how I'm setting the 'offset from reference' value, either, I've tried changing that- it places the spot slope directly on the element and won't let me move it without forcing me to delete it.

Also- I've been using spot slopes all over this project, with no issues until today. Already tried restarting, etc. to no avail. Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated, I'm tearing my hair out over here!this is where revit wants to put the slope...and what happens when I try to move the slope annotation. 😞

It literally worked fine yesterday- I have never seen anything like this...thinking it must be some weird bug!

I picked the bottom surface of the top layer of the assembly and it works.

Funny. This is the error message I must resolve before I can even open your file.

Help me out here, @jennifer. What view should I open to test in?

...I tested in several views and cannot replicate. Is there a specific view that this is occurring in? Or, is it global?

Okay, I got an instance to behave the way you're talking about. But it's not systemic. I found that it was difficult to place a Slope Arrow on the W-Wide Flange in Section 17 due to competing sloped references in the view. I was able to resolve by temporarily turning off those other references in the view. I then got a much friendlier Slope Annotation.

...also, a different looking Slope Arrow. The "bad" ones have no paddle or point at the tail. Those functions are disabled.

I noticed they were missing their tail too...but couldn't figure out how to get it back.

Ok, I'll try turning off the structural stuff and see if that helps.

I think it has something to do with the angle the section cut is at.

...I haven't gone back into your project to verify this, but is it possible that some of the slopes are skewed in the view?

...maybe a cross-slope? I can imagine this condition being hard for Revit to reconcile.

...oh, also temporarily set your Phase Filter to "Show Complete". I think I did that as well.

...Sorry: one more thing I did: I temporarily set the Far Clip to 1/8".

I think the reason is that the roof has a negative slope. Edit the roof and change slope definition to the opposite edge, make it 1/4" instead of -1/4", adjust the elevation to match what you have, and you will have no errors. Below I only changed the roof slope from negative to positive but did not adjust the elevation.

Okay @jennifer, I'm back. I clipboard copy and pasted "(R2) 11 7/8" TJI + 3/4" decking + rigid + TPO" into new Project and spot slope behavior in new Project sections views are all funky -- no matter what the angle of the Section Marker. Maybe because it is shape edited or because it is polygonal or because it is both.

@ToanDN: Okay, I got it open. What am I looking for? I just did another clipboard copy/paste of the same roofs to new project, and behavior is unchanged.

...you know, there is really no good section view to annotate this. That information wouldn't even make sense.

Well I have fixed it and I can place spot slopes no problems, with paddle tail and movable and all. But you can't then so be it, let OP try it for herself.

And you are mistaken. The roof is the same roof, not a clipboard copy.

@ToanDN: calm down. I'm not challenging you. I just asked what you wanted me to inspect. I wasn't working with that element you're showing in your screenshot. I was testing roof family (R2) 11 7/8" TJI + 3/4" decking + rigid + TPO. I still haven't a response from the OP about which element specifically she's having issues annotating. I'm just trying the one I indicated.
