I would recommend creating detail component families. Why would you want to nest them, and into which category?

If you need to import CAD content, import the DWG, unpin, explode, switch linestyles to Revit linestyles, and PURGE ruthlessly.

Hello all,

For a long time I've been trying to generate some sort of sketchy, architectural looking trees to upgrade my elevation views. Somehome it seems almost impossible to find a good way of doing this. Has anybody had any succes so far? What is the best way? Nested detail item families? And what to put in the detail items? CAD, images or maken some filled regions?

Thanks in advance,

Thomas

Are you saying that you do not want Render Appearances or Geometry -- just 2D representations? Are you not wanting to use the Planting.rft?

Now, if renderings were required, then yes, our friend Planting.rft would be very much in demand. But if renderings are not in the picture, I would strongly recommend staying away from the complications and consequences of using 3D renderable tree families. Just my two cents.

I don't disagree, O Illustrious one too.

But the OP could use the Planting.rft without Rendering Appearence or Geometry. But, maybe I'm misreading what the OP's is trying to acheive.

The post that you quote addresses Civil 3D and Land Desktop. The only thought that I have is that this could give DWG content for the OP to insert into Revit families and use.

Of course, there is also the concept of the BubbleGum trees - where you have Planting families set to Coarse display. This would be the lesser of the evils of using RPC content, though I am afraid that it would lack in the elegance that our OP seems to be in search of.
