I have tried looking but have not been able to find a clear answer to what I thought was a simple question - is there a way to use a model pattern in a plan view? Or is Revit set to only use drafting patterns in plan views?

Example: I have a standing seam metal roof. The material is set and working wonderfully in every view when set to realistic. When I am using hidden lines (typical in elevation and plan views) I am encountering difficulties. I have set the material to use a model pattern, and I have told it to align to the element. This works perfectly in 3D views, elevations, etc. But in the plan view (I just want to make a roof plan...) the hatch is not aligning to the element, which tells me that it is likely the view uses the drafting pattern instead, or something?

Anyway I'm very confused. About to just use detail regions but I'd really rather not. Help!

You can align model patterns as needed using the align tool....or just tab until you select a line and use the move tool or drag.

If you can't select a line it is a drafting pattern. Also if you can't see the pattern at all, check to see if patterns are turned off in Visibility Graphics.

Thanks! I did eventually figure out that the view was already over-ridden and it was affecting the changes I was trying to make. Good to know it was something else, and not just an aspect of certain sorts of views
