By "drag and drop it on to the page." do you mean that you have the sheet open and you drag the view from the project browser?

I just discovered this little gem that will save you a click or two. You don't need to open the sheet in order to drag and drop. You can select the view you want to put on a sheet and drag it to the sheet within the project browser. The sheet then opens and your in placement mode for the viewport.

As far as efficiency goes, I think good browser organization is about all you can do, OOTB.

Hi,

I am working on a DD set of a fairly large project with a lot of views (sections, elevations, etc). I'm wondering if there is a highly efficient method of placing views on sheets. Currently, I have to open up the unreferenced view, find the subcategory it is in, hunt for it within that subcategory, then drag and drop it on the page.

Is it possible to place a view on a page from the actual view itself, rather than going through the project browser? Or is there some other method that someone finds more efficient?

If not this is a serious flaw within Revit and is highly inefficient.

You can sort the Project Browser > use Not on Sheets to isolate views that haven't been placed yet. You can right-click on a sheet in the Project Browser > Add View which will open a dialog to scroll through eligible (not already on sheet) views to place. It's called View (Place View) on the View ribbon > Sheet Composition > View.

View Naming strategies can help. View Types can help segregate views so the tree is easier to navigate.

Some people are using Dynamo to work out a strategy for placing views on sheets, which rely on very consistent view naming and parameter values being assigned when views are created. Might consider seeing what Dynamo discussions offer on this front.

Unfortunately it is a major flaw of Revit, modeling is relatively easy but documenting on sheets is taking ages...

Dynamo or a dive in the API will help you.

There are some add-ins for this.

PyRevit works well.

Sounds like your Project Browser organization is conducive to your workflow. Plainly, you're working way too hard to find views that are not placed on sheet. You don't need an external App to do this; just follow @SteveKStafford advice which uses the built-in functionality. You'll thank him later.

That's my two-cents worth.
