point cloud rendering problem

Hello,

I am using Revit2023 and try rendering with point cloud that is as .rcp link but it is not appeared in rendered picture.

I found this Autdesk Support page,

I launched Revit as an administrator, but the point cloud did not appear in the rendering picture at all.

In realistic, shading, and consistent colored mode, the point cloud has no problem.

Is there any solution?

Point clouds do not render in Revit.

Do you have any idea for rendering Revit object with point cloud which is .rcp or e57 exported from ReCap?

The file size of point cloud that I use is a bit large as 15G.

Unfortunately, I have no clue. Perhaps you might want to try your luck over ReCap forums or even resources outside of Autodesk.

You may try to do rendering in Navisworks intead of revit, as point cloud is not rendering in revit now. May be upgrade in coming versions

FWIW: That article has nothing to do with RCS or RCP (e.g. Point Clouds). It's referring to RPC (Rich Photorealistic Content). RPCs are ArchVision content; Trees, Entourage, etc.

Regarding your question: a workaround might be overlaying Views on a Sheet. That is, Duplicate the 3D View that you are Rendering and isolate the Point Cloud in that Duplicate View. Then place that Duplicate View atop the Rendered View on the Sheet.

Thank you for the comment.

I tried rendering rcp file in Navisworks. The point cloud appears in the view but not in rendered image file from Navisworks. It is the same as Revit rendering.

If there were any tips to output rendered point cloud image file, I would be really glad to hear it.

Here are some tips

Export the mesh from PhotoScan as a . obj file.
Import the . obj file into Rhino.
Extract the vertices of the mesh as points us the Rhino command ExtractPt. This can take a while.
Export the vertices in the desired format if they are to be used in other software.

If its just for marketing - you can just use file - snapshot.
If you wanting it for use in CAD then Export - .tiff Ortho Image.

It takes a bit of playing around - the two things to adjust are the point size and the resolution of the images. The larger the resolution the larger the number of pixels - so the crisper the image can look, but the points can get too small and the image can begin to get washed out, so you can make the point size larger.

Point Clouds don't render...You'll need surfaces ( a TIN or meshes) in order to can acquire materials and then rendering...

The process to turn Point Clouds into TIN (can be done with some dedicated software) is a very time consuming one, especially for large files...

For presentation purposes I use a hybrid method with the Point Cloud (or better the 360 photos that come with the Point Cloud) for the existing, combined with a rough rendered 3d Model. The method , even not a true photorealistic one can be quite useful , as long as ,it is a quick method...
