Generic Family disappears after join

I am having an issue with joining two generic families. I have a window trim family. Where the trim is overlapping the trim of an adjacent window, I am using the join tool to merge the two families. However, when I join them, they disappear in elevation and section. They are still visible in 3D views. The families are nested in windows hosted to the same wall, and both joined object are from the same family and type.

Edit the window Family.

Check the " Visibility Settings " for the TRIM

Seems the Trim is switched off in elevation, and Symbolic Elevation Lines are placed in " Front Elevation " and " Rear Elevation "

Switch on the Trim Visibility in Elevations...( in Revit Family )

There is a visibility parameter in the family, but no symbolic lines. I can make the joined elements reappear by toggling the visibility on and off a couple of times, but they are no longer joined after toggling visibility.

In the Family, Left/Right was un-ticked..

I have switched it on and now it works fine the way you needed.

When one element is set to invisible on Elev/Sec, other elements joined with it will also be invisible on Elev/Sec, regardless of they were originally set to visible.

Yeah..

and the way that family is

created...

FACE based... so depending on its orientation and face..

Families TOP can should be visible in Elevation

( this is not a typical Window family where plan, elevation section are similar to project plan,elevation section. )

... so in every orientation the visibility was not consistent..

better to keep everything visible...
