Just wondering is there any plug in's / tools authorised by autodesk that calculate embodied energy with the use of BIM/Revit. I'm doing research for my final year thesis.

No, there is no database behind Revit that has a value for embodied energy per material.

But yes, you can extract the amount of materials within Revit and link them with an existing database which contains this information.

Create a material take-off schedule, add a new parameter and named it Embodied Energy. See screenshot for details. Then you need to gather the actual values for different materials that you want to present. Finally, format the field to calculate Total then you have the Sum embodied energy of the building.

To clarify: Revit takes the roles of quantify and categorize materials used in the model. You still need to collect the embodied energy value for each material and plug them in the Revit schedule to get the final result.

There are free ones specifically for buildings. Like the ICE Database.

If you are lucky, your university/school does have a license for the CES database. This database is really gigantic, but maybe a bit too much.

thats great ive got it working i think. just wondering does revit let you use (MJ of energy). instead of converting it to joules manually. just run these screenshots by you. i used the ICE database for values for now.
