Perspective mode simply doesn't work - help appreciated (look at the video)

Hello,

When I click on perspective mode, all hell breaks lose and the angle is extremely wide. Furthermore, the middle mouse button stops working and I can't orbit around my model. To orbit I have to manually grab the navigation bar and click on "orbit" button. I'm sure that this is not how Autodesk intended perspective mode to be used.

Why can't Autodesk implement a simple persepctive mode like Navisworks or even other software like Sketchup ?

Try adjusting focal length in View Cube flyout menu.

Where is the View Cube flyout menu ? Also why can't I orbit with middle mouse button when in perspective ?

I think questions like this detract from the actual issue. Is this what you want to know (It's the only question you asked.) or would you like people to focus on finding a solution for your problems?

I think your Revit is broken. I tried like heck to replicate what you are showing. I cannot. Do you experience this behavior in all projects? Have you applied the latest update? Could this be hardware related?

No issues here. Perspective looks fine and panning/orbiting works normally with the middle mouse button.

It looks like somehow the center of rotation and the camera itself are really close and zoom is locked or something? When you use the Steering Wheel tool, can you change the orbit center point? and maybe zoom out with the steering wheel?

Is this something that happens in only one file or files started from the same template? maybe something there messing it up, some kind of hidden geometry way away from where you are modeling maybe?

3d Navigation controls across Autodesk products share a common toolset/code base. So Navisworks and Revit 3d Navigation should be/are very similar.

You seem to have a lot of trouble with perspective views that other people cannot replicate. Why do you blame Autodesk?

I downloaded and installed Revit 2019.2 and then tried. It still doesn't work. I'm happy to know that it works for other people.

So the question to be asked is : Why is perspective mode not working on my Revit version ?

I asked a colleague who has also installed Revit 2019 and he has the exact same problem, the exact same bug. I don't think it's a coincidence.

Here is a screencast where I open Revit and toggle perspective mode. There are no added parameters.

Yes I can do that but it doesn't really fix the problem. It still acts very weird and when I move the model after some time I have to modify the focal length again because it just bugs out.

What I don't understand is why Revit doesn't automatically adjust the focal lenght like Navisworks does for example.

Try setting up a Camera View--from a Plan View, instead of changing an axonometric/parallel view to a perspective view.

Do you still have the odd display behavior?

If I do this, then I take out the border of the camera and also change the focal length it seems to work fine.

Why doesn't the default 3D view have the same behaviour ? It's very very weird.

We are going to try and contact Autodesk directly since you can do it for example but not us which is not normal. The default 3D should have a comfortable perspective viewing experience, just like on your computer.

Revit is not slow, it seems you don't understand the problem. The problem is that when I click on perspective mode, the view is not "user-friendly", focal length seems to always be incredibly high, and when I try to orbit around the model it doesn't work as intended.

Maybe we this is happening only on the french / EU version of Revit and not the USA one.

When you 3D Orbit in a Perspective or Orthographic view the center of rotation is always going to be different.

If you want more control over how you rotate select an object and Revit will rotate with that object being the center axis.

It has been like that as long as I have been using Revit....

Did you bother reading the thread that @Anonymous linked you to? The information in it could very well pertain to your issue. In fact, the title of the thread could easily be changed from "Revit 2019 is slow in perspective view when panning" to "Perspective mode simply doesn't work" (the title of this thread).

Do you do much troubleshooting? In my experience, most times the solution is found in the oddest place -- or a series odd places, if you know what I mean.
