Why do base cabinets appear as dashed lines?

I am adding base cabinet components to a project and for some reason they appear a single rectangular dashed line while a reference model I have shows solid lines with the thickness of the cabinetry in plan. Is there a setting besides the coarse - fine setting?

Have you checked to see what your view depth settings are?

The view range settings are the exact same for both models

Sounds like a Detail is visible in Plan View/RCP. Modify that Detail in the Family or remove it entirely and make the Model Geometry visible in Plan/RCP.

I don't know how to do that. This is the default base cabinet model that comes with Revit 2019. I open its family and I see solid lines showing the cabinet in the floor plan - this is what I want to see

OOTB Base cabinets have a Masking Region with a Plan Rep-Below linetype category. So it will show hidden even if you don't cover it with a countertop. If you don't want to see it turn off the category after placement or edit the OOTB family and delete the masking region and change the visibility of the casework modeled elements to be seen in plan.

To add to what @Anonymous has said, these are the model geometry visibility setting in the family. Plan/RCP is unchecked, meaning that the geometry is not visible in Plan and Reflecting Ceiling Plan Views. Instead, Detail Linework (Symbolic Lines) are only visible in Plan and Reflecting Ceiling Plan Views. That Detail line work is the dashed outline you are seeing in the project. It will show in the Plan/RCP View, even if you place a counter on top of the base cabinet. If you don't want this Detail representation to show, and would rather see the geometry in Plan/RCP, then select all the geometry in the family and then select Visibility Settings and check Plan/RCP. If the Plan View of the family has has a Masking Region, then you will need to delete it if you make the geometry visible in Plan/PCP. I think you can leave the dashed linework on though. Might be good to keep.

I have found the dashed lines in plan view actually work well for shop drawings, especially when you have a chase behind the cabinets or at islands and peninsulas. When you start adding fillers, aprons, etc., it helps the installers understand how to put more complex assemblies together. Unfortunately most of the time I do not use the OOB families, but I do see the benefits of the hidden lines.

The one showing hidden lines is one of the OOTB families (or built according to the OOTB standards). The one showing all the bells and whistles has been modified to make the actual geometry visible for Plan view and Coarse detail level.

You can follow the advises above to show the bells and whistles but for sure they will look terrible on small scales drawings. For architectural plans, showing a cabinets as a dashed box is very common.

You just saved my FREAKING life, woohoo! I was going NUTS! tHANK YOU!

I went to the family, shrunk the symbolic line to one foot, so I will see nothing under my upper cabinets in plan view! NKBA standards have upper cabinetry showing as full lines and the lower as dashes, drives me crazy. I am used to the architectural way of showing cabinetry, oh well, I found a band aid for now, yay!

attached are my own personal notes so I won't forget at a later date.
