We have a multistory LTC project where we need handrails in corridors. We group the handrails in order to copy them to all of our typical floors but when I paste it to the level above it gives me the error where it asks you to "fix groups". I can copy the group to the same level and change the reference level to get it to another level but then if I edit the group at all the same "fix groups" error comes up. This happens no matter which railing type is in the group.

Has anyone found a solution to this that doesn't involve just not grouping the railings

Level can be selected via the Options Bar when placing a Group Instance.

Re: "Fix Groups", is the Railing Hosted to a Floor or something other than a Level?

Actually, can you just share the File?

Also, this article may be of interest:

"Group instances of the same type do not contain identical members" in Revit (autodesk.com)

Unfortunately I cannot share the file. Here are the settings of the railing. It is nothing crazy.

Yes I can change the reference level. But then when I edit the group once it appears on 2 different levels I receive the "fix groups" error when finishing the group.

I have tried hosting the railing by level and by a floor host and have the same issues with both methods.

Edit Group? I missed that. Are you introducing something new to the Project as well as the Group when inside Edit Group Mode? The proper way to add to a Group is by using Add button to add element(s) already placed in Project.

My problem isn't quite getting it to place. My problem is once there are multiple instances of the railing group on different levels, any changes to the group cause the "fix groups" error to show up.

Hi,

From the report it's the Extension Lines of one of the rails (Top rail, Handrail 1 or Handrail 2)

for instance id: 13704827, select this one it should highlight somewhere, go into it's handrail edit and correct the path (or reset path)

I only see 2 groups, but a lot of Extension lines issues, seems like the railing has a lot of Extension line edits...?, so half would belong to group 1 and the other half to group 2.

For anyone who may also have this problem. From testing different ways to model, as long as I don't use the trim/extend function while drawing rail paths it seems to be fine. But it's crazy that I can't use that tool while modeling about 70 individual rails in our corridors
