Hello

I looked for another solution to my roof problem, I found a Revit roof modeling file I would like to add it (attachment file). So basically I have 2 questions:

How to replace the generic existing with this model type? I opened it in my file and tried the Match Type Properties. I also saved the file as Family file. I didn't know how to put it in my file.
How to model it in my file if I don't have a previous roof?

Note: If I have to send these 2 questions in separated conversation, please let know, for later conversation.

Transfer Project Standards.

Open both files: this file and you working file. Go to your working file and go to Manage>Transfer Project Standards: check only the Roof Types box.

I still can't find. Where to locate it please?
Just to understand how Revit works. Why to transfer my working file if I want to put this file in my working file.
In case I find it. Do I have to sketch a new roof or I can replace the existing?

Okay I thought you only needed to get the Roof type, not the actual model. To bring this model into your file, go Insert menu > Load as Group, then select the file and okay to bring it in.

I would like to apologize if I mislead you. I'm new to Revit so I don't know the right words and expressions to the right question. I guaranty that I'm not trying to be rude. And the bad news is I still can't find. I'm sorry. In a simple way, I want to sketch this type or roof tile in my project. How to do it please?

It works only on a roof with 4 points. I have sides with less and more than 4. Is there a way to do it?

For 3 sides, place the family with 3 points aligned and one point off so it is still a triangle.
For more than 4 sides, place it several times.

I tried below 2 scenarios with success. ( point 3 and 4 in second photo are next to each others and not on top of each others.

You must be picking the wrong points. See below. I would change the view to Hidden instead of Shaded or Realistic when doing this task.

Yes I did this mistake. I still have the challenge to do it with more than 4 points.

In this condition 3 models should be created next to each others. But I can't remove the cut line in between

You could create a mass based on the roof, divide surface, and load the tile as a generic model pattern based and it will populate the entire surface automatically. Share your roof model I can show you.

I clicked on Reference line then without do draw a line I click on Set Work Plane then Line and I start to draw my lines. But I don't what I miss to get this below error message

Sorry. Before start the Mass, go to Mass & Site tab, click the Show Mass... button drop-down (2nd from the left on the ribbon), and choose Show Mass Form and Floors.

To recap:

- Enable view of Mass following the step above

- Start an in place Mass

- Set the workplane to a roof surface where you want to place the tile

- draw a closed loop Reference lines following the roof surface boundary

- select the closed loop reference lines and create form, choose 3d form, not 2d face

- grip edit the form so that the intended face is on top

- select that face and create divided surface

- change U and V to distances to match the family (39 cm and 24.5 cm)

- select the divided surface and change it to the correct roof tile from the type selection

- finish the mass

It sounds like a lot of steps but if you watch the screencast, it takes just over 1 minute.

It's already set to Show Mass Form and Floors
