For the most part, I don't work with "true" lineweights displayed - in AutoCAD or Revit. Frankly, I always felt like that was one of benefits of Computer-Aided Drafting. Regarding color, I don't work in color in Revit and I don't recall ever missing it. Probably because I have always worked with a white background in Revit. Colors on a white background don't work.

Plot grey line style as grey but all other colors as black?

Would like to be able to view colors as I'm drawing my details. Have colors assigned to the linestyles that I have created. One of these linestyles is a hatch line style which I like to plot as grey (assigned to my fill patterns). Have a plot style assigned to plot black. Everything is working as expected but not able to get the grey to plot grey in this manner.

Anyone know of a way that I can have just the grey plot grey..... and everything else plot black.

I'm thinking there might be a way because I also have the reference model in the background greyed back and that plots grey....

Would prefer not to have to do any sort of override (if that is even a possibility).

Any ideas?

Thanks Barth. Was hoping not to have to do any sort of overrides but it's an option. Have looked into this a little this morning....

I currently have a view template assiged to this "view" which I will assign to all other similar views. Was thinking I could go into the view template and change the color from black to grey. I opened the View Template manager> Selected the Template I want to change> Selected the VG Overrides Annotation Category Edit Button> Selected the object style button (Bottom Left Corner) and that takes me to where I can change the colors of objects. But I'm not able to locate anywhere to change/ override any of the linestyle colors I have assigned.

Can someone explain/ point me to where I would make this change to my view template?

Looks like I could right click the entity and change it from visible to halftone. But that is definitely not ideal because would need to do this for all entities.

Hey Victor. Your post wasn't visible when I responded last.

Probably should have mentioned that these are not model views I'm working with but all annotation type entities. Have model in background (greyed back) simply as an underlay for detailing. So mostly need to manipulate detail lines and regions.

View Templates and Filters aren't going to work since you're using Revit LT.

I suggest you try working in Revit's natural environment of black and white with line styles configured to show line thickness, "What you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG). In this way you pick a line style like Pen 1 or Pen 2 or Pen 1 Gray or Pen 2 Gray...only the gray lines "need" to be gray in your scenario. While the use of color is a favorite of many people in a detail the lines don't really need to have color, just different thickness for legibility. Especially since you're not printing in color, nobody else will benefit from your use of color in the details.

I hear you Steve.

Here's the rub for me. I have a hard time working with the lineweights visible in the view (both autocad and revit). For me it's much more intuitive to grab a color for the same time entity and know I have the "correct" lineweight.

I may grow to get accustomed the other way around but right now it's a stretch.

The other reason for wanting to use colors in revit is that I'm in CAD so much (back and forth) that I have my colors in revit matched to my colors in cad so I always know what I'm looking at and I'll be able to pick revit back up quicker when I have to put it down for extended periods of time. At least that is the thinking.

Not opposed to rethinking and going with all black.... and the fact that I can't easily plot the grey using colors coverted to black may push me over the edge. We will see.

I rarely work in thin line mode because it distorts what I'll really see when printed. I'm so used to seeing lineweight in views that it's disconcerting to not see them. I only do so when I'm not convinced something is aligned properly or overlapping when it shouldn't. I toggle back and forth using the keyboard shortcut TL so it doesn't slow me down moving back and forth.

Makes sense & I understand where you are coming from. For me it kind of feels backwards. When I work with the lineweights visible etc I'm always concerned that I'm snapping to incorrect locations etc. Also, I use a decent amount of lineweights and sometimes the differences are relatively subtle. From within the software, the differing lineweights don't always show up as different when the lineweights are turned on. So, I never really am sure if I grab the correct lineweight (or match properties) if everything is black. At least if I have colors I know that I'm matching accurately.... even if I can't "see" the lineweight.

Not writing off revisiting the black only showing lineweights but just wanted to pass along my perspective if anyone is interested....

Bart-

So how do you know what lineweight you are working with? Just pay attention to the linestyle you are using?

As far as colors on white background I hear you. I use to use black for CAD work (not revit). Then I tried white. Didn't like that. Some book I read a long time ago recommended mid grey as a background because was easier on the eyes than black or white. Have been using that ever since.

To the end we are discussing, I just changed my Revit background to a dark mode with a mid grey background and it seems to be working for me so far.....

Never ceases to amaze me how many different ways there are to get from point a to point b in revit (and cad). Would be interesting if someone would tally up how many actual options there are in these two pieces of software.
