Thanks Steve! That's huge. I have it loaded into my model and working as you described. Very close to what I'm looking for and will give me a good template to learn from and fine tune it. Thanks for the push.

Want a level that I can use that is not attached to the model to use as an annotation element for wall sections. Would like for this to match the smart levels in both looks and they way they work with the exception of being attached to the model.

Any way to convert an existing level head family to do this?

..... How about this instead.

1. Can I copy a level (Yes I can)

2. Have the level that I copy not show up in the model but only in a view that I create. (I think I can)

3. Have that level not be attached/ locked to any of the 3D model entities (Pretty sure I can do this)

4. Edit the finish floor dimension to anything I want (or at least reference individually a point that is not model zero.

I want/ need to be able to call out top of subfloor height to top of plate height for each story of a building.

You can make an annotation family that provides the graphic appearance of a "level" and add text or parameters to define what information could/should be shown.

Alternatively you could place a Spot Elevation to identify the elevation of elements in the view.

Thanks Steve. Not real savvy with all that yet so was hoping there was a way just to manipulate an existing level to get to where I wanted to be.

Need to spend more time in revit and less in CAD.

"It's the "same" as a block with Attributes in AutoCAD" Well that sounds manageable then.

I'm using Revit LT2025.

Really trying to get a workflow down here so I don't have to bail on Revit again to get this detailing done.

Keep picking it up and putting it down and lose so much of what I get to.....

Any help appreciated.

I would use the Generic Annotation method as described. Levels in Revit are "smart" and are used for a good deal of things (constraining walls, beams, etc) - so there is no way of hacking a Level in the program like you want.

Attached is a Generic Annotation family that has a line for the "elevation", two filled regions for the filled portions of the circle (datum marker) and two arcs to finish the circle. The annotations (attributes) are a nested Label family that is part of the stock library available for Revit. The label family has two types, Description/Elevation, so you can provide a description for the the "level" and an elevation for it. There is a length parameter to control how long the line is. If you need to extend the line to right instead of the left, use the mirror tool (disable the Copy option) to mirror it instead of mirroring a copy.
