Merge multiple shared parameter files

I know that this has been asked multiple times - but maybe someone has come up with something new? I have inherited multiple Shared Parameter TXT files - how can I bring them together into one?

Why do you want to combine SP text files? Are you going to use multiple S.P. text files when you are creating new families. Or, edit and Export existing Shared Parameters in families to another Shared Parameter text file?

I have inherited a bunch of them - one for Walls, one for Doors, one for Windows - you get the gist? It would be easier to have all of them in one file with the parameters in groups. I did try the copy and paste method - did not work!

You could try to open the files in Excel and copy paste rows from one file to another. Make sure the GUID value is unique for each and every row. Pay attention to the value of the Group column as well and make sure you regroup them properly. Do it on a copy just in case.

I get your "gist", but I don't think you get my "gist". Why do you think that that would make it easier? Believe me, it won't. It's just producing a can of worms. You would need to modify the Shared Parameters in each existing family. If this is what you really want to do, the RF Tools can help.

Yikes. @barthbradley you have a point there - all the families will need to have the parameters pointing at this file.

I wouldn't edit a Shared Parameter Text File is this way. That's opening up a whole other can of worms.

Also, there is nothing wrong with having multiple shared parameter files.

Not working. I copied info into Excel, exported it out to TXT, and Revit does not like it.

@ToanDN - I thought that one SP file was the recommended and streamlined way to go? My concern is that I do not want to continue with this.

You cannot just copy paste save and call it a day. You need to look carefully at the GUID, the Name and make sure they are all unique. if not then you need to rename them. I did a simple test and Revit can open and use the merged txt file just fine. With that said, it is not worth pursuing.

I did look carefully at the GUIDs, names, groups, etc. When I save it out as a TXT (delimited) and attempt to look at it in Revit, it gives me an error. What could I be missing?

@ToanDN - here you are. Thank you in advance! Group 3 is out of the merged file. And there are a lot more files that should be merged into this.....

Try this.

Open both files, this one and yours, in Excel you will see the obvious problem.

And how did you take it out of Excel to TXT? When I take your file out of Excel to TXT, it goes kablooie again.....
