Doors and drawers in cabinetry instead of using detail lines?

I was taught to use the detail line tool to mark up where all the doors and drawers are in cabinetry in say for example on kitchen cabinets.

This has worked fine in the past but now that i am starting to use rendering software (Lumion) the annotated detail lines arent showing up in the model i import into Lumion. If they did show up they wouldn't be any good anyway im assuming because they are not actually part of the model.

Can anyone please recommend an easy work around for this instead of having to model every single door and drawer separately that goes into the case work? Thankyou

John, I'm telling you right now that modeling cabinet drawer face and door face is the easier and fastest why to do what your are describing. If you are going to do a photoelectric-rendering, you want geometry that will cast shadows and reflect light. The drawer faces and door faces don't to be fancy -- Just basic rectangular extrusions; maybe an 1" thick.

p.s. what wrong with the OOTB Casework?

... hi @Anonymous

... if you want to show the elements volume and material you must create volume for those elements

... if you only draw lines, those will be ok for a elevation or plan layout

.... but for rendering ... just volume

... you can create those as model in-place

.... or as @barthbradley said : go with the casework provided in REVIT and modify it

I'm currently modifying CDS Casework to be better constrained and the ability to switch out drawer faces and handles.

http://www.naaws-committee.com/?page_id=259

Lots of cabinets to start out with though.

I saw a really good solution on youtube where some guys was just modelling the casework in a family and they had pre-made doors and drawers ready that they nested into those families where the doors need to go. These nested doors could have there parameters changed eg lenght and width.

Are you guys doing this? If you are do you no where i can get some of these doors and drawers to nest ?

Thanks

Not sure if I am going overboard or creating too large of files, but for rendering, I like to take the time to show an accurate model using geometry with reveals, gaps, etc. I figure I save a lot of time not worrying about the inside of the cabinets that are concealed by doors and drawers. I also don't worry about exact hinges or pulls.

Yeah i have just watched a really good YT video that shows the best way to do it IMO.

Use CREATE VOID FORM and VOID EXTRUSION to model the doors in the casework model.

Ah i wish i worked in an architects office, im a self taught builder and all this stuff is very hard to find out yourself

I agree with you. When you're a person without the right education, it's hard for you to learn a new specialty, especially one this complicated. My wife and I once wanted to buy a new closet for the living room, and we didn't know which one to choose. We decided to make a model of the closet and send it to the specialists from https://www.joinerysolutionssw.co.uk/, who would make a ready-made model. We spent a couple of weeks sitting at our PC to learn how to use the program and create what was originally intended.
