Thank you for your response @dzanta!

I checked in Revit 2017.2 and the layer export settings looks the same as the ones you posted. But when I perform the export it seems that the sub-settings in the category "Walls" are ignored. All my walls are exported to the layers defined in "Walls/Interior" and "Walls/Exterior". Those don't have any sub-settings.

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

DWG export - Wall outline and hatch on different layers?

Hi,

I'm having problems with exporting to DWG from Revit 2017.2 and maybe you guys can help me out:

I want the wall hatch and the wall outline for any given wall be exported to two different DWG layers.

Revits built-in exporter works alright most of the time. BUT in the exported DWG both the wall outline and hatch end up on the same DWG layer. How can I control this so that the outlines and the hatches are put on two different layers? (So I can control their visibility in AutoCAD.)

Example:

Wall type 1 gets both its outlines and hatches exported to a single DWG layer called "A-01SC--EI_".

But I want them to be exported do "A-01SC--EI_" and "A-01SC--EIN" respectively.

After searching the forums I learned from old threads that if I change the Export layers options to "Export all properties BYLAYERS, and create new layers for overrides", I ended up with the desired linework on different layers. But it's a messy solution since this results in a lot of extra layers numbered with endings such as *-1, *-2, *-3 etc. Se attached screenshots. If this setting is the way to go, how do I control the naming of the layers?

Any thoughts and ideas on how to accomplish this?

Revit view to export

Exported DWG (Outline and hatch on different layers)

Original layers (Export category properties BYLAYER and overrides BYENTITY)

Extra layers (Export all properties BYLAYER and create new layers for overrides)

I am using Revit 2020 and 2019 which have the following information. I am not sure if Revit 2017.2 lacks this functionality. Revit walls will export to the A-Wall layer. Revit hatch (Surface Pattern) will export to the A-Wall-Patt layer.

Check your Export Options within Revit.

Try the cut pattern rather than the surface pattern. Worked on my end in Revit 2017.2.

I'm guessing that defining a layer for the cut pattern exports the cut pattern for ALL walls to the same DWG layer. This doesn't address the problem with exporting the hatch pattern of multiple walls to different DWG layers.

All right, I did not read the initial request thoroughly enough. I can get my walls to end up on layers A-01SB--EJ_ or A-01SC--EJ_. To get that, I had to change the layer names in the cut section of the table.

All hatchings end up on the layer defined under Cut Pattern. If you add a Layer modifier there depending on the function of a wall, you get an extra-layer for exterior or interior hatch patterns. Those could be altered inside AutoCAD to A-01SB--EJN or A-01SC--EJN.

Sorry that I cannot come up with a better idea.
