topic Converting IFC elements into native Revit elements (e.g. IfcWall → Revit Wall) in Revit Architecture Forum

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on an MEP project in Revit, and I regularly receive IFC files from the architect. I would like to know if it's possible to convert these IFC elements so that objects like IfcWall become actual native Revit walls (Wall), rather than staying as generic IFC elements.

The goal is to be able to place openings/reservations or use other modeling features that require native Revit objects.

Has anyone done this before or can recommend a method or plugin to achieve this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

When you import the IFC file Revit make a file same the name with ifcname.ifc.rvt

open this file in revit.

You should have one,Revit made this file, but if in any reason you don't have one so you can open the IFC direct in Revit By OPEN->IFC :

@IntYo189

You have two options:

Option 1: Instead of linking the IFC, Open it. This is convinient is the IFC was originally created from a native Revit Model.

Go to File Menu

Open >> IFC

If it is an IFC generated from a native Revit,

most of the elements would retain their original form/system families (example: Walls)

Other elements would be imported directshapes into the relevant catagory (example: roofs)

You can place inserts and openings in both

If it is an IFC was not generated from a native Revit model (example: from Archicad),

The elements in this model would be noneparametric directshape components (non-native components - ie: you wont be able to use the ifcWall to host windows, doors and openings but you would be able to cut out openings by other means)

Save as a .rvt model

Option 2: Link the IFC into the model then use the generated "[FILENAME].ifc.rvt" (created in the same folder as the IFC file)

The elements in this model would be noneparametric directshape components.

They would have the relevant revit category (where applicable) but they would not be native components
