Hello all,

I want to move a generic model element (it is an inverted pyramide, so I need the center of it) in the center of the Survey Point.

I cannot do it with 100% accuracy, as I cannot find the center of the Survey point in 3D.

Any idea?

Thank you in advance!

I have just tried it and Revit snaps to the survey point just fine. If there is anything in the way you will have to TAB a little until the circular point snap shows.

What do you mean by needing the centre of the upside down pyramid? Its centre of gravity or its bottom point? Can you provide some imagery?

The tip of your in-place-family marker is below zero. In Revit the developers do not want 3D-snaps for everything in 3D views and is restricted to structural elements and probably some others.

So you are stuck with your selected working plane (level 0). If you go inside your marker objekt (ie edit it) and remove the offset, its tip is on the same level as the survey point. the model lines are somewhat in the way but can be tabbed away.

Sometimes Revit will not allow you to move an item, but will allow you to copy it, so exploit it.

Also, you should be familiar with using different Snaps while in the middle of command (it's useful to remember all of the Snaps shortcuts, Manage tab > Snaps).

Workflow which should solve your problem (and other similar):

1. Set 3D view on View cube on "Front" (or on any appropriate side view)

2. Select object you want to "move" and choose "Copy" command

3. uncheck "Constrained" on options bar

4. type SE (Snap Ends) and pick pyramid top

5. type SX (Snap Points) and pick Survey Point

Now your object will be in the same plane as Survey Point

6. Rotate your 3D View and repeat steps 2. to 5. (now you can use "Move" command instead of "Copy" command).

I'll throw in another idea for your consideration. The source "inverted pyramid" appears it be a non-Revit element. Why not Export it out of Revit as a dwg, open it in AutoCAD and move the inverted pyramid to the Origin of the dwg (e.g. place the "tip" of the inverted pyramid at 0,0,0). Then save the dwg and Link it into Revit via Shared Coordinates. This will place the on the "tip" of the inverted pyramid on the Survey Point.

I assume those are object bounding box coordinates (left-most X, bottom-most Y), since your object is about 1m wide, it's -0,5m on the left (X) 0,5m on the right (X)

it's also -0,5m down (Y) and 0,5m up (Y)

From this point, bounding box is measured to the right (along X axis) and to the up (along Y axis)

I believe tip point is in the center (0,0,0), make sure to check that.
