The issue was that it was modeled in 2017 and I was opening it in 2019. The update for some reason was causing the crash. I realized this after downloading a 2017 trail, and it opened the file.

Thank you for your time to answer me with such detail I greatly appreciate it. I will look into the links you posted as soon as I have a chance.

Hi all, starting my path in revit I need some help, please explain the most you can so I can learn from these walls I hit when using this great program.

I am a Mechanical Drafter. So I received a file from an architect. Wanting to model in the ductwork, when I opened the file, I got all these warnings-see attached. Can you please explain what's going on, what does each of them mean, and why they are coming up. And what needs to be done so I can open this file and that this shouldn't happen again with other projects in the future.

Please don't give me a few words answer, so I can get the most out of this issue I just got into. As we all know, every such situation is an opportunity to learn.

I much appreciate your time and efforts to help me out with my issue. As soon as I have a chance, I am going to drill down into this link. But do you have anything that you can tell me in a "Few words" what's happening and what I need to do?

Hello @Berrys_Cooling_Drafter ,

It looks like you're running into the following things:

Error 1: The central model <Filename and path> cannot be found, perhaps due to a lost network connection.

Your model has become orphaned form it's central model.

Most likely someone sent you their local file.

You want to select 'Detach from central' when opening the file (Shows up as a check-box at the bottom of the open window). Then save-as, and you won't likely see this again.

If you want to get rid of worksharing completely, do the following when opening the model: Disable Worksharing | Revit Products 2019 | Autodesk Knowledge Network

Error 2: Opening worksets

This isn't really an error, the file sent to you is workshared, this means you can choose to open sections of the model, or all of it.

About Worksets | Revit Products 2019 | Autodesk Knowledge Network

If you want to get rid of worksharing completely, do the following when opening the model: Disable Worksharing | Revit Products 2019 | Autodesk Knowledge Network

Error 3: Some families have become unusable. Reload the families, or delete them from the model.

Some families are corrupt. You need to either delete them, or if you do you have good copy, you can try and reload.

If this is a file from a client or 3rd party, you likely don't have a good copy of the families for reloading. You should let them know, in case important information would be deleted.

Error 4: Data in file <name and path> is corrupt and needs to be manually recovered.

It looks like the copy of this file is corrupt.

You can try using the following to recover it: "Data in file (file name).rvt is corrupt and needs to be manually recovered" when opening a file or syncing a file to central in Revit | Search | Autodesk Knowledge Network

If this is the file you received from the third party, it may have had transfer errors. I'd let them know what happened and ask for a new copy. This happens to me often when I upload my files while they're still open in Revit.

Hope that helps! Feel free to press 'Accept solution' if this answers your question, or reply back if you need more assistance.
