edit no2:
Hi everybody, just noticed this today.

I have project in BIM360 with shared coordinates. One master file and multiple buildings with each in it's own file.

Previously when I had PBP clipped, I could move it and then the entire building/link would move inside the master file.
Just realised, I can now do the same thing with Manage>Project Location>Position>Relocate Project. It's just that project basepoint is only a reference for levels, not the tool for moving the project

HI Team,

In Previous versions 2020.1, Project Base point clipping is enable and can be disabled. But in Revit 2020.2, the clip of the Project base point is not available.

The over all project can be moved to location with help of Project base point. But now it doesn't appear and there is no connection between the grids and Project base point.

Please answer if any purpose this is done. And Please explain.

Attached image for reference.

Thanks,

Pandiraj.AV

I don't think that it's to do with Revit 2020, as I can see the clip for PBP in 2020.

I have also noticed this issue, and have re-produced it on various machines. As soon as 2020.2 is installed, the clip is removed.

I have logged this with Autodesk support yesterday and am awaiting to hear back from them.

It was removed because it (clip) is technically irrelevant. We could not really move a project by moving it clipped. The PBP can only change/provide an alternate "local coordinate system", one that a spot coordinate annotation can report on.

If you find this difficult to believe...Create a simple model, export to DWG using Project. Then move the PBP clipped and repeat to a new file using Project. Xref both together into another DWG using the WCS origin. They land in exactly the same place.

Now export the first and second file using Shared Coordinates and repeat the Xref process...the second file lands in a different location.

Let's say, for some reason, the building was located 100' above the project base point, without unclipping the project base point, how would you move it up so that the Level reads 0 instead of +100'?

Relocate Project. Nothing has actually changed in how it works...just reflects the reality of the PBP not really "doing anything" to the project's origin while clipped.

I think it's ultimately a good thing that it was removed. It was the cause of much confusion, and ultimately the 'move project' command does the same thing.

So if a person in 2020 or 2020.1 moves and clips the project basepoint in a project, when another person in 2020.2 opens this file, this becomes automatically unclipped?

The clip is gone...won't be visible anymore. If the PBP is not at the Internal Origin then it will be used by a Spot Coordinate Annotation as the origin of a Local Coordinate System, apart from the Internal Origin, like before when it was moved "unclipped". If the PBP is at the Internal Origin then a Spot Coordinate assigned to Internal Origin or Project Base Point will report the same values, relative to origin.

Clipping or unclipping the PBP in the past didn't do anything, the action itself. It was only relevant when the PBP was moved, it mattered which state the clip was in during the move.

The trouble with moving it clipped in the past is that when a project has its Survey Coordinate System configured the move of the PBP messed up that configuration.

I found that my project base point has moved outside the 20 mile limit so I can no longer move it back. So much for it being clipped. My file was fine before update but now I am unable to create Navisworks NWC files for coordination because the point lies outside the limits.

No. I am the only one at this company/on-site using Revit. It wasn't a problem a week or so ago. I could create NWC files no problem. To check I have just opened an older copy of the file, and of course, it upgrades from 2020 to 2020.2. Reveal hidden elements and the project base point has moved into negative coordinates in the x-y plane and is located where the internal origin cursor has appeared. There is no way I set the file or template up with the project base negative. It has definitely moved. The survey point is ok. It has remained at 0,0,0. We have a site grid and levels so 0,0,0 is correct. When I try to move the base point I get the 10 mile message.

Revit 2020 files don't go through an upgrade process...they just open in 2020.2. That's why the internal origin shows up in them...no upgrade means no intervention to go through and turn of the new sub-category they've added. Part of the upgrade process from earlier version is a specific task to turn it off. That doesn't resolve your issue tho...

Which icon is your model close to, the Project Base Point or the Survey Point? If near the PBP and Internal Origin icons you shouldn't need to move the PBP at all. Just export to Navisworks using the Shared Coordinate system. If near the Survey Point then that means the model is actually very far from the internal origin.

If you can post the file somewhere for me to look at it offline I can do that... Send me a private message with a link to a location to do it...if you want to. I can tell you what I find.

Mike shared the model with me. It is modelled very very far from the internal origin of the project, in the image below the model is located at the Survey Point. The model elements display as distorted which is a symptom as well. He was able to export to NWC via Shared Coordinates. To resolve the distance issue however it will be necessary to move it there. I did attempt briefly to bind the model but it generated errors that wouldn't allow it to finish. I don't know why without digging into it much deeper first.

Noticed this just today.

I didn't find much use for the PBP clip neither, we tell our consultants to set everything out from a known, agreed, northings and eastings point anyways, using an Ordinance Survey drawing, should things 'snap' out of place as a backup...

Hi Steve! The OP can always do what we do on the Construction side, which is to Create a new Revit Model (we call them Coordination or Shell models) with whatever the desired origin(s) and add the original (messed-up model) as a Link. Setup a 3D View with that Link turned on and export to Navis with the option to include Linked models. This method may be a little cumbersome at times, but it gives us complete control to "fix" or unify various models and CAD files no matter the source.
