Elevation Constraint Locked

I'm working on a project where I've started running calcs in Elumtools, and noticed that some of the fixtures are incorrectly modeled.

I am trying to adjust the elevation of the blue circled fixture, however when I select that fixture, the constrain is locked so I can't manually adjust it. Where would I find an option to make that editable?

Post the family (or the project) so we can see what you are working with.

I tried exporting the family details but there was a huge string of information in a TXT file. Not sure if that's what you meant though.

Edit: Additionally, the Host type is "Face" (I don't believe that was captured in the photos)

I meant post the RFA or the RVT. But this information is helpful. A see lot of formulas are affecting the driving dimension. I see that the user inputted value is being evaluated and changed automatically. Post the RVT.

If you select the fixture in the project and look at the properties, does it says what the host is?

When you say you are trying to adjust the "elevation"; do you mean the "Suspension Height"? Via "Suspension Height" instance parameter?

Can't post the RVT due to company policy but the RFA I believe that was used was the attached. I inherited the project when I came aboard so many of the families were pre-existing and I attached IES files to them. The attached is what I assume was used because I don't have an existing database of what actually was used

In Regards to your 2nd message: I mean the elevation height from Ground to base of fixture. I need the fixture to be more like 10' elevation whereas that one is stuck at around 3' but the other in the same room is at 10'.

In regards to ToanDN: the host says "Face"

So far my workaround has been just copying and pasting the other fixture, however for the future this may not always work.

1. make sure the light is placed on the right host

Well, the family flexes fine. "Suspension Height" parameter accepts user inputted values directly. You say you can't change this value is the Project?

Most probably, the elevation parameter is not connected with the family components. open elevation view in the family to see which parameter controls the level.

Use the suspension height parameter instead of the Default Elevation parameter

Suspension Height is fine like you've stated, however there's also another field for elevation which remains static and uneditable at around 2'.

For instance: With the elevation of 2', I give the fixture a 3' suspension height, the fixture goes through the floor (which is obviously incorrect).

In Response to @MostafaElashmawy : The project itself has 6 detail floors so using elevation view is a bit clustered. There are probably ways to minimize the business in the elevation views but I'm also still learning Revit/Elumtools since I come from an AGi32 background

What I meant is to open the front view elevation for example.

at this views you can see how the elements are connected to levels through parameters.

In your front view, it's obvious that the parameter controlling the elevation is suspended height parameter.

You can change that and use the default elevation parameter instead. However, take care that suspended height parameter is instance parameter which gives you control on each single element. while default elevation is a type parameter which will unify the elevation for all the instances of this type. (this also can be adjusted, but that's another story)

The project I'm doing had to use 2 other RVT files, in conjunction with the primary one I'm using for the lighting calculations

If I click on the fixtures it states one of the other RVT files that were linked into the one I'm primarily using.

If I double click it lists the host as Face

Focus on @ToanDN responses … he asked you twice 🙂 to check the host... the face based lighting fixture u have is currently hosted on the wrong face of a linked model in your project (2' Elevation in the constraint is reporting the height of that host from the level datum.

Re-host it properly to the right face or workplane

This forum has become a mess in the past two year!!!

Note that the 3" you are trying to use are measured from the face hosting the lighting, regardless the floor level.

...so you're saying that this family in a LINK? No wonder you can't adjust it. Open the LINK directly and adjust it there.

It is hosted on a wrong surface in the link model. Tab on that linked surface and see what it is exactly so that you can see that it is the wrong one to host to.

To fix it, either rehost it to the correct surface (do it in a 3d view so you can pick it correctly), or draw a ref plane on host it to that plane (you can move the plane up or down to match the surface you want to host the light).

The family itself is fine and the issue has nothing to do with Elum tool. It is all in your project model.
