Hello,

I am attempting to link a CAD background into my model. Unfortunately the CAD is inherited and I cannot automatically orient it to my grid lines. Online resources I've found show that in Revit 2019 I should be able to select manual placement, but this option seems to be missing. I've found a few articles that show where the option should be, but on my instance of Revit the options are not there. Workarounds I could use are adding grids to the CAD, or placing the link using the auto center-center option and then locating and moving it, but on principle I would like to sort this out for the future as those options are unnecessarily time consuming. Does anyone know why the manual placement options may be missing?

Thank you,

Garrett

Are you saying the "Manual" options next to "Positioning" in the Link dialog box are grayed out? What version of Revit are you on?

Also, why can't you just change it manually after the fact?

I think you are linking the file from Link >>manage links>>CAD>>add. in that case, manual will not be an option.

You should do the following:

Link >>link cad

Is your CAD drawing using surveyor coordinates? I run into issue where if the CAD file is miles or Kilometers away from the origin, Revit will always use center to center as your only option.

Just unpin the CAD file and move, rotate, align into correct position.
