i'm not having any issues with the views and clipping, i followed the same settings from your screenshots see attached image. From your screen shots, it looks like your are running Revit 2017. Have you tried downloading the 2017.2 update and loading that. 2017.2.3 is what i'm working with....

Hello:

I have been having issues with IFC files not cutting in plan when linked within one Revit file. I have tried bringing it into a Family Type/Generic Model so Revit recognizes it with a Category. But Revit 2017 will not allow me to import IFC models.

Is there a fix for this?

Please advise.

Thanks.

An IFC itself is equivalent to a Revit project file so that you cannot link it in a family. Share the IFC here if you want us to look at it,

I don't have 2017 but the file appears to be showing correctly in Revit 2019. below is a comparison between a floor plan and a 3d top view so you can see the the elements being cut correctly.

can you upload the IFC? i have a project currently in 2017 that we tried using IFC's from Microstation on. The main issue i have had with IFC's is, depending on where they came from, any rounded surface gets triangulated and looks nasty. other than that i have always been able to cut sections.

you said in your original post "IFC files not cutting in plan when linked". are your referring to cutting sections or making additional plan views (2nf floor, etc...). when i open the RVT provided i have no issues viewing plans, cutting sections, etc.

i opened up one of my standard 2017 files i do testing in and linked in the 2 IFC files and didn't have any issues. i can see it in plan (multiple levels), cut sections, place an elevation, etc... see attached.

https://autode.sk/31bf7f9

Howard:

Thanks for assisting me with this.

The problem is not cutting the model in section as that works fine; it is with the clipping plane in plan. Please see the attached images from Revit Forum reviewers who have worked on the files in higher versions of Revit where they have no problem. My clipping plane does not adjust correctly in the file. The 2x wood framing at the columns which slopes should be moving as the clipping plane is lowered or raised.

Please review the images.

Thanks.

Ahhhhh sorry, misunderstood the issue. i think i know whats happening, i just had someone in my office have a similar problem.

if the item being clipped is not Entirely inside the Plan Region, that will happen. since this is an IFC import, it is being treated like one large object. as a test, adjust your Plan Region outside the highlighted box and see if they adjust.

that looks about right, did that work? if your just using a Clip Plane, you "shouldn't" have to do that. It didn't look like you were using Plan Regions, but i thought id throw that our there as an option, but if its working 👍 ...

if you feel you need another video i can certainly come up with something :-).
