Hey Autodesk Community!

I’m currently working on my final senior projects in Revit, and I’ve hit a hiccup that I’m hoping someone can help me with. This problem occurs in my Revit 2023 and 2025.

I’ve attached a screenshot of my floor plan in Realistic View. As you can see, some of the materials are displaying correctly, but others appear white or show the flooring material underneath the object. Many of these components are from Steelcase.

I’ve applied materials to most of the objects and don’t want to overwrite them, but I’m wondering if there’s a trick or setting I need to make them appear properly in Realistic View.

Thank you so much in advance for any guidance!

Shani

When the visibility of the 3D geometry is switched off, then the material is not going to be visible except in 3D view. Your options are are either of what the two replies suggested, and which are as follows:

option A: the shortest cut.

The visibility of the 3D objects is turned off. You will have to edit each family, by deleting the masking region then turn display back on for the 3D object.

Hi,

The issue you're seeing in Realistic View — where some furniture components appear white or show flooring materials underneath — is likely due to Masking Regions used within the family environment of those components.

Many families (especially from Steelcase or other manufacturers) include 2D Masking Regions in their plan views, which override material visibility in Realistic mode when viewed from above.

📽️ Check the attached video for a quick demonstration of how this works and how to adjust it.

✅ Quick Fix:

Open the family in the Family Editor

Go to the Ref. Level (Plan) view

Select and delete the Masking Region, or replace it with a transparent symbolic line if needed

Reload the family into your project

This should allow the material to render properly in Realistic View.

Not the material. The solid objects are hidden in a Plan view and replaced with 2D lines and masking region. I'm suggesting you fix this by editing each family, delete the 2D cheats, then restore visibility to 3D objects in plan view.

Thank you all so much for your help and guidance! I tried all the suggestions mentioned above, but unfortunately, some of the Steelcase products still aren’t showing up correctly. One of my professors is okay with them not being rendered, but another prefers to see them rendered.

Given the time constraints, I think I’ll place the products in Photoshop and use top views to meet the requirement. Again, I really appreciate all your help—thank you!
