Problem with txt file not appearing when loading a family

Does anyone know what computers setting would stop a family file from loading the accompanying txt file with the size & configuration info? I have an online student who loaded a family, but the txt file, that was in the same folder, did not open to let him choose the sizes. We were on a Zoom meeting, so I opened a new project & loaded the family file from the same Dropbox folder he was accessing, & it loaded just fine for me. I had him copy the folder to his desktop, in case it was a Dropbox issue, but he still did not get the Specify Types dialog box to appear. None of the other students have had the same problem, so it is unique to his computer. Any idea could be causing the Specify Types dialog box to not appear?

Hi,

How does he load the Family? From the FamilyEditor or the Load Family from the project, only with "Load Family" a types catalog will be shown.

Also is the correct category selected, model component won't work for Structural framing etc.

It was an exhaust fan he was trying to load. He loaded it from the Systems tab, Mechanical Equipment, load Families. He did it correctly, but do not get the results expected.

As long as the TXT and RFA Files are named IDENTICALLY (aside from extension) and reside in the same folder, then "Load" should work.

I know it should work, but it didn't on this one computer. Both files are named correctly, & have worked for 49 other people, but it will not work on this one computer. That is why I was asking if anyone knows of some computer setting that could be the cause of the txt file failing to open.

Maybe something with the Project, anyone else working on it?.

Has he tried loading it in a new Revit project for one of the default templates?

Or this, Close revit and clear the temp folder

In windows explorer type in adres: %Temp% that will take you direct to it, ignore files that can't be deleted.

If 50 people have got it working, I think it's hardware-related. A loose nut behind the keyboard maybe?

I am going to suggest he reinstall Revit, it is either a problem within the program or something else on his computer. Thank you all for your responses, I always appreciate the help I receive here.
