Revit wont allow me to change the dimensions between two components

I am relatively new to revit but I know how to change dimensions by clicking on the witness element. However, I can't seem to figure out how to change the dimensions in this instance. I have existing footers and new footers, I am trying to put dimensions in but I can't edit the dimensions to the correct ones. Please help

so, what are you trying to do exactly? are you trying to override the dimension or having issues snapping to a specific object to get a dimension?

Revit will not allow you to directly override a dimension. if the dimension is "wrong", move the object so the dimension is correct.
if your having issues snapping to an object or Family element, use the TAB key to cycle thru your snapping options.
- if your trying to snap to an element IN an Family, it all depends on how the family was created whether you will be able to snap to it or not.

Do not select the dim. Select the element you want to move and the dim will become highlighted in blue, then click on the dim text and enter a new value.

I am trying to override the dimension. I need to set a spacing of 17'-3" but I can only move the component in order to get the dimension to change. It gives very specific numbers and I cannot get it to 17'-3". I am trying to set a dimension from center of new footer 1 to center of new footer 2. How could I get it to this exact measurement?

I have tried this before and it has not worked. However, ill try doing it with a wall for example and it will work just fine so I'm not sure if it has something to do with it being a component (footer) or what.

You can change the footer's Eccentricity property to move it left or right relative to the centerline of the wall. Would that accomplish what you want to do?

I'm a liitle unclear what the issue is but FWIW:

...Align and Lock the elements to Ref. Planes or Grids the pull dimensions between the RPs or Grids instead.

...If you're trying to move elements together to maintain their relationship to each other, maybe Grouping the Elements together would help.

Does your footer family consist of shared components? If so, you need to Activate Dimensions.
