Revit 2021 - Edit Group Panel Missing

We have just deployed Revit 2021 and on a few machines, when the user edits a group the edit group panel is missing. So far I've:

- Checked the Modify tab on the ribbon but it's not there.

- Reset the RevitUILayout.xml file

- Tried to cycle through the desktop to see if the panel is hidden under something or on a different screen

We can't even get any user assigned keyboard shortcuts to work. FG for finish group works but assigning anything to add to group etc does not. The issue is not project specific. Other users on the same project have no problem and the issue is spread across people working on different projects.

If you Select the Group in the Project Browse and click "Edit" it opens the Group in it's own RVT. Is that what you did? You should still have the Edit Group Contextual Tab pop up when you select an Instance of the Group in the Project. You don't?

No, I'm just editing the group inside the project - select group, ribbon, edit group. The edit group panel is not visible. I can use the keyboard shortcut FG to finish the group but no other shortcuts work. As stated above, the panel is neither docked to the ribbon (under the edit group modify contextual tab) nor is it floating on another screen / under another window that we can find.

Did you have dual monitors set up at one time?

Nothing else come to mind at the moment -- except maybe an add-in is screwing with it.

I'm 99% certain that the Group Edit panel has been dragged offscreen or it's an issue with multiple monitors. Try unplugging all but 1 monitor, that should force all windows onto one screen. If that if doesn't work try the reset UI option in the link above.

Thanks, turning off 1 screen forced it to appear. Had already tried resetting the UI but that didn't work.

Oh! you had dual Monitors up and running! That's a nugget of info. This has happened to me more times than I care to admit. That's between me, you and lamppost.

If you have multiple monitors, you can also try the following to resolve the issue:

1. Change your Display Resolution to a larger resolution with Revit running and the Group Editor active.

- In Windows 10, right click on the desktops and click "Display Settings"

- Change the "Display Resolution" to a different resolution (preferably a finer resolution)

- Do this for all monitors

- Minimize all apps and look for the Group Editor dialog box on all monitors.

- If you can see the Group Editor" dialog box, move it to the center of your screen and then you can reset the "Display Resolution" to the original setting.

- If you cannot find the "Group Editor" dialog box, reset the "Display Resolution" to the original settings and try method 2.

2. Change size of text, apps and other items. Again do this with Revit running and the Group Editor active.

- In Windows 10, right click on the desktops and click "Display Settings"

- Find the "Change size of text, apps and other items" drop down box and change this to a smaller percentage (I had mine set to 150% and this was causing the problem).

- Do this for all monitors

- Minimize all apps and look for the Group Editor dialog box on all monitors.

- If you can see the Group Editor" dialog box, move it to the center of your screen and then you can reset the "Change size of text, apps and other items" to the original setting.

If these don't work you may have to reset the RevitUI.

I have a solution

This worked for me as I have a dual monitor set up.

I have a laptop connected to a larger screen and the "Edit Group Toolbar" does not appear, it seems to get lost in some apparent dead space which I could not find.

None of the original solutions suggested here worked but this method worked for me. But if you right click the Taskbar (Main bar at the bottom of the screen with shortcuts, "type here to search" etc.) and you will see these 4 options;
1. Cascade Windows

2. Show Windows Stacked

3. Show Windows Side by Side

4. Show the Desktop

If you cycle through these the windows will moved to the appropriate order.

Not all worked for me but (4. Show the Desktop) worked for me.

In summary;

1. Right click taskbar at the bottom of the window

2. Select - SHOW THE DESKTOP

3. All windows should now be visible including the Edit Group Toolbar.

This has frequently been an issue when I use multiple monitors. In Windows display settings (right click on desktop) set the resolution and the display scale of all monitors to the same settings, or as close as possible. You may find the group editor box appears elsewhere on screen, now drag it back and host it to the Revit ribbon toolbar.

CHECK UNDO HISTORY GO BACK TO EDIT GROUP FOR IT TO REAPPEAR,

THEN YOU CAN REDO UPTO WHERE YOU ARE ABOUT TO FINISH EDIT GROUP MODE.

This has been so many years and yet this problem keeps persisting. Autodesk needs to sort this. I've encountered countless times over the years and today again. Why is this bug not fixed?

Good thing we have transitioned to Autodesk Revit 2025 and haven't encountered that. But yeah-it was multiple monitors being connected and the computer detecting a different resolution kind-of-thing that affected this.

Changing my display resolution to 100 and then back again caused my group editor dialog box to be reset to the middle of my screen

Another option, the easiest from my experience, is to undo until edit group, then redo all. And then, the tab will appear again

I just had this issue today and I was able to fix it by clicking Close, then when the Save File Dialog popped up, I clicked Cancel. This was enough to refresh the hidden Edit Group window and make it show up again. (I did also try the Windows Key + Arrow Keys trick [to no apparent avail] and minimizing/maximizing Revit, and moving the Revit window to another display. I don't think that really did anything but that was my exact process.)

Seems like the issue crops up when you have multiple displays.

Had a co-worker recently with this issue. He went from 2 screens + laptop to large curved screen + laptop = Edit group bar was located on third monitor.

Solved it by changing the primary monitor to the large one in windows, and edit bar came into view, no need to restart window/revit.

Gave advice to keep edit bar docked due to regular switching from the 2 setups.

Windows Key + Arrow key doesn't work because the Edit group bar isn't a actual window but a ribbon panel.
