@AnonymousWell I don't know the ins and outs ofcourse, but I think I would look at keeping these two constructions seperate with a ring / triangular truss maybe in its design. Just a thought though, probably you have a project supervisor to help you along... Regarding the adaptive family question, it seems you've found the answer.

i'm trying to make a "tree" that has adaptive points. the basic shape of the tree is a rectangle and i want each rectangle's center to be the point.

when i make an instance parameter and change the number to bigger or smaller, it doesn't originate from the middle point that i need- that is the reference point.

attaching pics- can see that the first width is 30, then when i try to change it to 60, it expands not from the middle.

important to say is that i don't have the eq sign when drawing the rectangle.

when i draw the rectangle,i start from the middle point and go up(half the length i need) and than right(half width that i need) and than continue with the regular lengths so the rectangle will be the right size from beginning and will be centered.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to do, but I think the answer is nesting of another adaptive family...

eq sign doesn't appear.

i could do 2 dims and then i'd have the eq option.

thing is if i do 2 dims, that means it'll be 2 different instance type parameters, i think.

i just gave up on the perfectionism in this case and did the points as revit wants it, from an edge and expands towards the right/ left and not from center wise.

May I ask why you think building a tree as a generic adaptive family is a good idea?

i have beams that are under a floor(hidden in pic) and from their edges i need something i can control- the branches attach to the beam(to the sphere at the edge of the beam) and then the other edge of that branch i can move around and place them on intersections of the mass. each branch is a different length too, a bit longer/ shorter.

look at the picture below, hope that explains it.

if you have any other ideas, i'll gladly read them! i've been only learning from these posts.
