topic Problem with complex geometry import in Revit Architecture Forum

Hello!

I want to create a Revit family by importing a 3D object in .dwg - attached to the topic. I recevied this geometry from a software which designs and calculates the electric power lines, so I have no control over the way it's generated. As you can see, the object consists of many intersecting and overlapping 3D surfaces, which Revit can't recognise.

I just want to import it as one single object (mesh, solid etc.) to a new family and then add parameters to it. I think I tried everything, but I can't make this model work.

Is there any way I can make such geometry readable by Revit? Would Dynamo work? Thank you.

Yes, exactly! I want to create a family from this model, but when I tried to import it by "Insert CAD", nothing showed up... Can you walk me through the process?

I would suggest importing the CAD into a Generic Model family. Check the import units - it's probably why you can't see it.

ok, you need to scale your drawing in autocad in correct scale/size, it's too small when you import to revit you won't be able to see the objects, once your drawing already scale or size increase import to "Metric Generic Model.rft" and save and give filename and load in your project. here is the example file i did. .thanks

The original seems to be in meters, so if you set Revit to import in meters, it should scale correctly.
