topic Curtain Wall Panel: Making an openable awning that is also visible in elevations in Revit Architecture Forum

Hi there,

I’m seeking some advice on Curtain Wall Panels, and was wondering if anyone would be so kind to offer some guidance.

I have created an awning window, under Curtain Wall Panel family to fit into a current project’s curtain wall system.

So far so good - the awning fits perfectly into the panels of the main model, and I have included a parameter to control the degree of operability of the window, as well as a Yes/No parameter to determine whether the window displays as open or closed.

My question is related to the definition of the Yes/No parameter. I have set it up so when I check the “Awning Open” box, it shows an extrusion, which responds to the operability parameter mentioned earlier, and hides the glazing that would otherwise appear closed (an extrusion of 0 operability that appears when “Awning Open” is unchecked).

This looks great for the purposes of producing 3Ds, however not very practical later down the line with respect to tagging and scheduling, as the window appears on an angle (as it’s open) and as a result, doesn’t appear flush (closed) with all other glazing panels in elevation and section views.

I wanted to ask if anyone knew of a way to control the visibility settings of this family more specifically - to allow the family to display in the open position for 3ds only, and otherwise appear shut in all other views such as elevations/sections.

Any help would be much appreciated!

🙂
