If the annotations are turned off but still showing, try using a view filter. Create a filter for the specific annotation category (Generic Annotations) and apply it to the view, setting its visibility to off. If that doesn’t work, you might need to temporarily unload the linked model, then reload it to reset any visibility settings that might be stuck.

These infernal generic annotations in my linked model cannot be masked or hidden. I have added a mask over portions of the plan but the annotation show through the mask when printed (and in print preview). I tried to turn off all the annotations in the linked model BUT THEY STILL SHOW.

Also, as a side-mystery, could someone please explain why there is sometimes an extra node under linked models? This particular on is helpfully (not) named "14 (<not shared>)". I turned of all annotations in both just to make double sure, but the annotations still show.

All advice welcome,

James

Ok...some progress...but I still don't understand what is going on. I was finally able to make the annotation go away but I had to specifically hide just the Generic Annotations, and needed to do so only in the mystery node.

Explanation of the mystery node is now my top priority. I don't want to have to always guess which node to modify!

In Visibility/Graphics the top node is the "definition" of the link while the one listed under that is the actual instance of the link placed in the model. You only need to edit the main entry, not the one underneath...WHEN you only are using one copy of the link.

If you have multiple copies of the link then each is listed as a node underneath the "'definition" of the link. This allows individual links to be overridden differently in views. Again if you only have one instance of the link there is no need to edit the "instance" node...just the top is sufficient. If there are multiple instances and you edit the top node's settings it affects all the instances. So you can manage all of them the same way...or drill down into individual copies of the link.

If you're using worksets then each link has a type and instance parameter for workset and it is for the same reason. To provide a way to control individual copies of a link based on their workset assignment. If only one link instance, then both type and instance parameters should be the same workset.

When you have only one instance if a link then edit the top or the branch (only one branch anyhow) yield the same result. It only makes a difference when you have more than one link instances, then edit each branch will affect each link instance independently from the other.
