How to fully turn off a light in Revit

I see that to turn a light off for rendering one can either:

1) Uncheck the light in the artificial lights rendering dialogue box or

2) Turn the dimming number from "1" to "0" in the same dialogue box.

However, I'm noticing that some recessed downlights in particular utilize a "white, high luminance" disk as a lens, which glows even if a light is turned off by one of the methods above. If I change that high luminance lens to glass for example, I get a line that projects on the ceiling to either side of the light. Ditto if I delete the lens altogether.

Any thoughts of how I'd switch from a day to night scene using the same recessed downlight with a white glass, high luminance lens?

Sounds like you are referring to Self-Illumination, a Material Appearance Property. You can uncheck it to remove it.

As noted, if it's removed, the light will cast a glowing line on the ceiling to either side of the opening. This illuminated disk seems to be integral to how this light operates. Fine if one wants it on. Not fine, it one wants it off in a daylighted setting. I have also found no way to switch it off without affecting lighting performance.

That light came with the Revit package. Another recessed downlight I found at Bimobjects had the same glowing disk and when it was removed or changed to clear glass, the same glowing line appeared on the ceiling to either side of the light.

I accepted your solution. I can't recreate the issue but I remember that somehow the properties of the bimobject light got mixed up with the other light. How, I have no clue.

That said the Revit provided light is functioning normally now. And I see that the reason for the luminous disk is to make the light look like it has a visible light source, which I can turn off in daylight scenes.
