Railing Profile + Railing Trim

I am trying to make the railing work 2 different ways -each seems to have an issue,

First off, I have a Glass Baluster

with balluster placement options as below

which leads to

how can I make this baluster work to fill in the gaps and to be consistent?

Secondly I have a glass profile which I downloaded and which provides the following result

It is too tall and I therefore want to edit it, but I can't find where to do so: I can't seem to access the profile family anywhere. Is this because I downloaded the railing?

I know I can shift this profile lower, but I actually just want to be able to edit it, so as to make it smaller. I will also have to modify the profile for landings.

Which brings me to a third question,

Why do I have to make different railings for landings and stairs? When a profile seems to work for a landing, it seems higher/lower on a stair. What's going on?

BTW: Glass Panel Baluster don't use a Profile. It's an Extrusion constrained and driven by 4 Ref. Planes .

...have you seen this Autodesk University Class? It pretty good. It's helped out a lot of people struggling for answers to some of the questions you are asking.

I've attached the file.

The glass always starts before the end of the rail -why? How can I indicate where the glass changes in the baluster family?

For some reason now my glass is bobbing up and down- why?

There's always a missing piece of glass at the end, though it should appear once I stretch the rail length I get the following message when I try to do this.

"The Railing line must be a single connected Sketch. If you want separate pieces of Railing, create two or more separate " Why?

The lectures in the links provided explain quite well tbh, think it shows to duplicate the baluster as many times as needed to match the stairdesign. So if you seperate the railing you cut the sequence...

makes no sense, that's not how I'm building the railing.

The tutorial was useless, the previous one was helpful though. All I'm looking to do is align the goddamn baluster to the front/back of my line.

Have you given any thought to just throwing in the towel and modeling the railing as an In-Place Component?

Or, you could spend some time reading and watching and practicing the method of creating railing with Baluster Panels.

You can use curtain wall to create glass railing. Edit profile comes in handy.

I went through the tutorial, as much as I love going through tutorials, can someone just take a look instead of sending another tutorial. I've attached the files again.

Yeah I have a curtain wall at the moment. Point is to model a complex set of posts/glass ballusters.

in the meantime,

as in the tutorial you sent I want to sketch my line, then host it onto the stairs, the hosting doesn't seem to work though. I align and host the rail line but I get what I get below

What are you saying? That you can't host the rail to the stairs? This can't be done inside sketch mode, which is where you at in the screenshot.

...also, it looks like your railng needs to be scooted over a bit to be able to recognize the stairs as a host.

Few questions so I get this -

Can I get access to the Panel Glass 2'1" Balluster Family? (If there's a way to get it from the file maybe I just don't know it.)

Why is "distance from previous" half the length of the panel? What is this measuring? (In the tutorial it was full width but the tutorial played around with the center reference line in the balluster family - this just seems to make a mess though.)

I am wondering why in the tutorial, the base was hosted to "host" but the glass was not jogged?

You could use the place on stair/ramp in the railing tool dropdown menu, that should host it to the stair automatically. Then you can split it into pieces you need. I took a look at your file, but your measurements for this stair seem to be quite random/fractional, don't know if that's on purpose but that will make it somewhat harder to create a railing with the railing tool.

though in the tut you provided the host does this- out of date?

and what's the option for then - is it just broken?

In any case it doesn't seem to work out of sketch mode either for this particular stair.

Well, all I can say is that Railing hosts to stairs in your Project just fine for me. Maybe it's a loose nut behind the keyboard. Have you checked?
