I just had a brainwave and discovered that the blocks show more or less correctly under Realistic View. I will have to consider if I can use that rather than the hatch pattern, where I may want to edit the picture.jpg dimensions a little

How do we edit concrete masonry unit or block dimensions in Elevation and Section views of masonry walls ?

As you can see from the Screenshot attached, they are all different sizes in my model, for no apparent reason.

I would like to standardise them all at 41cm x 21cm and/or cut blocks.

I had hoped it would be something like tile patterns o the floors, but it isn't

Thankyou and regards

Peter

It seems that these walls were splited and that is why the hatch pattern made a mess.

Checks if the the hatch pattern is in the size you want in the material's appearance setting and. try only to align the patterns with the tool align.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/ENU/Revit-Customize/files/GUID-F28C278A-43BA-4C90-B4A2-3DB44CC4299A-htm.html

If the answer solves your problem, click Accept as Solution this helps other users to quickly find an answer and let a like if you liked it.

It shows the wall type's material model surface pattern, you can edit it to change that. If you need a custom model pattern you could use addin such as PyRevit or use hatchkit/pattycake online i.e. There are several topics on that on the forum.

Thankyou, but

I don't understand why I have to go outside Revit to edit a standard pattern
that isn't the same shape of any masonry blocks I have ever seen, which are
almost always 16" x 8" x 4" or 8", and sometimes 12" these days for
insulated blocks, or in metric 400mm x 200mm x 200mm, and sometimes 300mm or
standardized dimensions so that setting can be made on a regular grid rather
than adding mortar thicknesses.

Surely it should be possible to open any pattern that has been provided to
have any dimensions we want, just like I can edit the walls so that they
show their correct thickness in plan ?

Please find attached a screenshot of the patterns available to me, none of
which seems possible to edit to 410mm x 210mm x 300mm, although I can change
their name, but can't find a model pta to edit the actual dimensions

Regards

Peter

Thankyou and regards

Peter

You can download patterns, load autocad .pat files if you have them i.e. or custom create your own. Which dimensions are you looking for exactly (in elevation), running bond I guess?

Yes, Martijn,

But the running bond patterns available in Revit LT are not real dimensions
for blocks, though for bricks they don't seem too bad.

However, I would have expected to be able to edit the dimensions of any
existing pattern to suit what I need, but it seems I can't.

It seems that I would have to impost a new file for every dimension option,
about as far from Parametric as you can get.

Is that the case, please ?

Incidentally, why isn't there a simple running bond pattern where we can
edit the dimensions to suit whatever we want ?

Surely, editing the vertical and horizontal spacing must be easy for someone
who knows how ?

Thankyou and regards

Peter

Ow, this definately should be improved. But for now we'll have to do with add-in's I suppose. It's a real shame you can't export the .pat file at least, so I totally agree it is definately too limited... without those add-ins that is... You can create them with just a texteditor though if you're a little familiar with .pat files... But let us know what you need we'll figure it out.

Thanks again, Martijn,

but all I want is a running bond pattern where the horizontal courses are at 21cm vertically and the length ways horizontal dimension is 41cm, allowing for blocks 20 x 40cm with 1cm joints in both directions, so that I can position doors and windows in detail on the elevations with the blocks showing.

If I had the option to increase the joints or reduce the block dimensions, so much the better.

Surely that must be easy ?

Peter

reagrds

Peter

Hello again, Martijn;

just to be clear, i would have thought we should be able to dimension the surface pattern as attached and edit the dimensions to what we want

regards

Peter

@peterdewSorry, I didn't see your previous messages. I would suggest installing the pyRevit addin so you can make/draw your own patterns within Revit, it is quite useful and you could do some more stuff which could be useful awell. Unfortunately I don't have it with my latest install yet. edit: Let me see if I can switch system.

I just had a brainwave and discovered that the blocks show more or less correctly under Realistic View. I will have to consider if I can use that rather than the hatch pattern, where I may want to edit the picture.jpg dimensions a little
