hello,

we are working on a project with many consultants, each consultant works on a different workset.

the problem is that a consultant wants to select objects only in his active workset and he cant do it.

editable only option is not good enough since its canceled after every action.

is there an option to select elements only from active workset? or another workaround? (without locking objects from other worksets).

thanks

Use Selection Sets:

from VGO >Worksets > Hide everything except the desired Workset

from Manage>Selection>Save - choose an appropriate name for the selection- the name of the Workset in our case

in any View you can use Manage > Selection>Load to select the saved selection...

And why don't you use Linked Files...it looks to be the most appropriate solution.

The consultants will work on their own files , that will be linked in your file and your file will be linked as Overlay in their file. A dedicated Workset will be created for the Linked files...

An workaround , if your work all in only one file , could be to use :Grey inactive Workset graphics with a very light Halftone , so to show graphically which is the active Workset..

Thank you for the answer, but i'll give an example for the scenario i want to happen:

a consultant wants to cross-select elements from the active workset without touching other worksets.

if i save selection it will select all the items from the active workset, i want more flexibility (if possible) on selecting with cross-select.

i still didn't get the right solution, i hope there is a right solution 😞

If you don't want to create some dedicated views for the individual worksets you could enable temporary view properties and do as suggested before, see post#4 among others. You can preset some view templates with the workset you want to see, select and then restore view properties. And also once you have created a selection set you could select that, press HI to isolate the (selected) elements from the workset instantly.

but if i isolate elements, i wont be able to see the other worksets.

for example HVAC consultants wants to move his units and ducts, but he needs to move it according to the new architecture layout (on other workset), he wont be able to see the architecture if he isolates his ducts and units.

Using isolate is more or less for selection purposes and/or creating selection sets in that scenario. If you're working with different disciplines you would use linked (copy of) file of your consultant on it's own workset. Under select dropdown you can uncheck select links and then the person working on it won't be able to select or move those. Or pin them.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/Revit-GetStarted/files/GUID-756F6241-C5D8-48D5-B703-9363E8C8FD65-htm.html
