Okay so in image 1 you see where I made a section through the building.
When looking to the section view, once with imported 3D, and once with the 3d imported as generic model, you see differences:

1. Imported 3D: even though I cut through the building, the site model pops in front of my building??? Not right...

2. Imported as generic model: The 3D model is in the back of my building, and cuts the building in particular in the right way BUT its black.... I dont know how/why this happens. I can not change the material of it through object style....

So the right way of showing the section cut is how it is visible in image 3: generic model, but the color is not right. Can you maybe help me how I can insert the 3d model in a right way where the sections are made in the right way, and where I can adjust the materials of the model?

SEction cut:

3D model imported in the project:

3d model imported as generic model:

Hello, I imported a Sketchup file in Revit by first exploding it in Revit > export to 3D Cad > putting all on same layer en exploding > import in Revit. When I want to make a section through this model and my building, the section of the sketchup model appears very weird....

So my question is how can I make proper sections in Revit with the sketchup model in the background?

In the image you can see that the brown lines are the sketchup model, my building is partly selected (blue). I actually made a section through my building, but sketchups model stays in front of it....

+
I see lines, yellow, which are not visible in sketchup because I erased them with shift+erase. Why do I see them in revit?

When I place the model as a generic model in the project, the model is doing good with creating sections, but is not working when I want to attach a material to it (through object style) it becomes just black...

That's not unusual. Those are likely Meshes or 3D Faces. Are you saying that those lines re NOT visible in ACAD when you select the exploded SKP Element? Betcha they are.

Which lines do you mean? The ones I mention are visible in Revit, but not in Sketchup etc? They should actually not be visible in revit.. but dont know why it is. It is also visible in Autocad...

I attached my revit file with the problem. I have an imported 3d model in it, which is in 3D showing the colors fine (white) for rendering, but when making a section it does weird things; Sketchup model flows into evrerything (sheet 1)

Importing the model as generic model shows that the 3D becomes black, but the section is fine.. I can not change the material through obeject styles...

What I need is actually the good things of both in 1: A 3 D model that is white with rendering (adjustable material choice) + which at the same time shows a proper section or elevation.

I uploaded a basic model with the specific 3D problem.

Thank you

I've look at your model. Apparently when the model was exported from Sketchup, it has override color to the objects. Revit will not translate those well and you are force to change the material to reflect those color. So I have to export those model to AutoCAD and fix the object to change to bylayer. Now when I import them in, you can control what those layer material will be.

When I change the 'Global' materials appearance, it indeed changes the color hmm.. But its weird, because I assigned gypsum wall board to it.. I tested also very quick with rendering, but te model is now partly black and partly grey hmm....... and not all white.....

Thanks anyways!!

It depends on how the sketchup was modeled. In sketchup it is better to set them by layers and set those object to be in the layer. Make sure the color correspond to the layer color. Once you export, those objects will be in the correct layers and set to bylayer. If you set the object by material, revit will translate that into override and won't be able to control it by layer

Within Revit, if you go to graphics override>Imported objects, you should see material tab. This is where you change those layers to the material you want.
