Hi Folks,

I'm brushing up on Revit skills for a new job I am starting in a couple of weeks by going over the course work I did college. However, I have noticed that I am unable to add a riser to a landing in order to increase the number of steps in a staircase in a residential building. Prior to Revit 2019 you were able to just select the stair, edit sketch and then add a riser to the landing. I'm lost on how to do this since the newer iterations of Revit have changed the way stairs are added. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Component Stairs vs. Sketch-Based Stairs? You can convert a Component Stair to a Sketch-Based one. Edit the Stairs, select the run, and you will see the option to convert on the Contextual Tab.

...I think Component Stairs were first introduced in 2017. FWIW.

You can create a component stair and convert runs and landings to sketches. However, sketches are mostly are for stairs with odd shapes. There maybe a better way if you only need to add a riser/step. Share a picture or a file of what you need to achieve and we will see.

Those instructions under Modify are pretty much what I said to do in my first post. Pick the Stair and then pick Edit Sketch. Where are you running into a problem? Are you editing a Component Stair? Well, you need to "Convert" to a Sketched-Based Stair first -- as I explained in my post above.

I'm unable to Edit Sketch, instead I can Edit Stair. I convert the landing into sketch-based and it won't let me add the riser. I'll include the file for your review. Please let me know what you think. Thanks

The issue you are having is that you are following the instructions to create and modify a sketch-based stair, but you have created a Component Stair - a completely different animal. I'm betting the tutorial you are following is for Revit 2016 - before there was a Component Stair. To follow this tutorial, you need the redo stairs using sketch tools, manually defining the Boundaries and Risers of both flights and landing.

Hi.
Sorry for the delay.
Been very busy with new multiplex plans and we are just transitioning into
Revit from Autocad.

I would be grateful if you could share stepbystep on how to build this
specific SPLITLANDING stair. We see this is an issue with REVIT 2024 and
alot of people have the same problem.

We use this style for our laneways all the time since it is such a limited
footprint, every inch counts.

Thank you so much.
Jason
