Rotating generic model

Hello all,

This seems to be a rotating topic: Found dozens of forum posts discussing this subject, jet I didn't get it to work.

I made a generic model, and I'm trying to rotate it inside another generic (face based) model. But whatever I try: I keep getting this error: "Can't rotate element into this position." I have absolutely no clue what's keeping it from rotating. Many similar problems seem to have been solved by de-activing "Always vertical" and selecting "Work Plane-Based", but in my scenario it will not fix it.

PS: I'm sorry for the resolution issues on my screencast. I'm still fiddling around with this feature, and I couldn't get it fixed yet.

Screencast: https://autode.sk/3n6McnK

I'm desperate for suggestions from you guys!

Host the Nested Family to a Ref. Line Work Plane - not a Ref.

If you create face base and attach it to level or workplane, it is set to that plane. Regardless if you want to rotate, it is set to those plane. However to make it rotate you have to create revolve object and set the face of the revolve object as your rotating pivot.

Thanks for your reply!

This would indeed probably works. However, I found Barth's approach a bit more elegant. Thank though!
