I am creating a rail termination family. In the family I need to create a sweep that spirals down and then ends with a radius. The profile is sort of like a flatworm turned sideways. Firstly I want to know if this is the ideal method to create such a railing extension family. Secondly if it is the correct technique how do i get the profile to remain aligned upright.

see image...

@n_mulconray

It is one way to do Rail termination...In Revit there isn't really a ONE IDEAL way to do stuff. On an earlier post I saw someone even suggesting property lines to extract/schedule Linear Length of elements! Same with In-Place families vs. Loadable families... And in most cases one cannot argue on which is the BEST way. Here is a good read on RAILING and RAILING Terminations from the RevitCat... It is old but I haven't seen much development or changes to the Railing tool in Revit in the past 10 years (except for minor enhancements)

On your second question: Constraining a sketched profile is a pain sometimes. If you model the profile ad a family and load it in, you will be able to set it at an angle or flip it if necessary. The profile should respect the angle which you set in the Sweep options.

You can use a adaptive family with nested adaptive profile family (always vertical checked), then switch category to railing termination.
