Hey guys i am currently trying to learn how to do wall and floor tiling the best way. So far i have tried doing it with both the paint tool for the floor and walls and also by modeling mass with the flooring tool and the walls with model in place as the flooring tool wont work on walls.

I am using a tile pattern 250mm x 250mm and the issue i am having is that the wall patterns arent aligning with the floor patterns, these grout lines (we call them in australia) need to align. Can you guys please let me know the best way to do this?

For tiling I tend to you use a floor material with surface pattern (model pattern type) for the tiles. When floor is placed you can move the surface pattern to align it with objects.

In rare cases I have created a Revit family with 3d tiles which where parametrized so that I could influence tile size, grout spacing and so on. However this should be avoided when possible due to being too heavy on a project and quite a lot of work to get done.

@Anonymous

Model Pattern should suffice to do what you described ...

I have used the floor tool for the floors and model in place for the walls as the floor tool cant bed used for walls.

I cant edit the patterns like you are showing here to align.

So what tools are you suggesting i apply them them with? Floor and model in place or different?

Also i need to have a material allocated to it for rendering reasons

thanks

@Anonymous

they are two different elements and each has its own material...Apply the surface pattern to the Material of the Wall and to the material of the Floor.

you do not need to add a new wall in front of the existing you can apply it to the finish layer of the existing

sorted it out, the best way i think is to use the floor tool for the floor and then use the wall tool to add a new 10mm thick wall (only one layer of tiles) ontop of the adjacent wall.

This is easier then doing the integrated wall splits ect in the structure tab within the wall system family and it gives you more control
