Thank you for your reply.

It is an interesting work around. It is not that I don't want to use coordinates... I want but as it turns out it is timewasting. I would need to set up coordinates in each group I create and delete to be able to align it later. And that can be just too much work.

I assume this confirms there is still an issue with linking groups back to model.

I choose to go with separate worksets for groups I don't currently want in model. I will keep them pinned there.

Thanks anyways!

Hello,

How is it possible that we still have a problem when we want to link a group to it's original place?

I have a group of certain elements which I saved as a separate file (Save As > Library > Group). Then I delete it.

I am aware that group remains in the project browser and one can easily return it back to the project.

But what if someone unintentionally purge the group from the project?

If I try to link the group back from the file I saved earlier, it places group to a completely random place. It's not aligning to a model at all.

Any advices without messing around with sharing or acquiring coordinates?

If you don't want to use coordinates and you want to make the group a file anyway, you could do this: open the file that contains the group. Copy to clipboard, go to the file that will receive the group, and do Paste > aligned to selected levels > choose same level. Then select the new group, and click on Link (to convert the group to a link) > Replace with a new project file. Now the group instance is replaced with a link.

Why is there still an issue if, with the steps mentioned above, the group is converted into a link and all the elements remain exactly where they are?

I don't need a link in a model. It is just a matter of saving some old work which may be handy again in the later stages of the project. Or what if I need to share groups with someone who is not that good in Revit or similar?

I understand and thank you for your proposition. It is just a matter of convenience and some time saving. If I need to export n number of groups to local server for instance I would like to know I am safe to link them back in to original place without trying to remember or search where it originally was.

I guess we can mark this as solved?
