topic model text reference type in Revit API Forum

Hi,

I'm using a nested family with modeltext. My model text is determined by project parameters which all work fine.

Only problem is that the model text in my family determines family placement in the project. (The tags is placed outside my beam family)

In other words I need to set model text to a reference type = not a reference. This is possilble with lines and planes ... but snooping the revit database there's nothing like this for model text.

Why do I need this:

I'm working on a label/tag for precast concrete elements. The labelnumber needs to rotate with the element. So the text in this tag can be up-side-down. This is not possible using normal structural framing tags.

I really need help on this one.

Regards,

Dennis

Hi,

my thoughts:

ModelText is a special case since its geometry is depending on both font and text.

When changing the text parameter, the resulting geometry will be re-created entirely, losing all possible references since also the faces cannot stay the same ones.

There is no persistence in ModelText, no way to provide stable references.

On the other hand, when changing an Extrusion, the object itself stays the same one, so the top and bottom faces can be used for references.

Revitalizer

mmm...I don't think I completly understand what you're trying to tell me here.

The main reason I'm working with modeltext in my family is that normal beam tags won't rotate with the beam (follow beam placement)

Modeltext is doing well as an alternative but it's also has effect on my beam placement (left / right / center)

So if there's a way to make an normal beamtag rotate.

Problem solved using a different nested family. The annotation family which I placed inside a beamfamily rotates with beamplacement and can also be up side down depending on beam placement. The annotation family within this beamfamily doesn't affect beamplacement (left/right/origin/center) Used shared (instance) parameters for text.
