topic IFC Export from DirectShape Elements in Revit API Forum

Hi,

I've converted walls, doors, and windows elements to DirectShape as described in Jeremy's blog. Thank you, Jeremy. It worked great so far 🙂

http://thebuildingcoder.typepad.com/blog/2015/11/flatten-all-elements-to-directshape.html

After converting elements into DirectShape I exported the model into IFC, and I realized that only Wall elements are exported remaining void volumes for doors and windows. Doors and windows are not exported at all as IFC elements. Is this happened because it lost the dependancy of models between the host elements and family instances? Please let me know if you know any information reagarding this issue.

Thanks,

Jinsol

Dear Jinsol,

Thank you for your query and appreciation.

I am glad to hear that it is working well so far.

I do not know whether the approach you describe really makes sense from a product usage point of view, though.

As you say, the host relationship will certainly be lost when you set things up like that, of course.

I should not think that that would affect the IFC export, though.

There are probably several other factors involved, too.

I see no reason why the door and window elements should simply disappear.

What categories are you assigning to the DirectShape elements?

Are you using the wall, door and window categories?

How do other models behave?

Have you asked a product usage expert on the proper way to set up the model for IFC export?

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

In Direcshape elements, I've assigned equivalent categories to the original elements, walls, doors, and windows..

I may need to investigate more with some other cases. Thank you for your answer.

Can you please let us know how you ended up resolving this?

Another developer raised the same question.
