Our office got a new server this week and now all of our Revit Central Files are 'broken'. This Autodesk article explains ways of moving Revit files to a new server based on how they access the server:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Moving-RVT-central-file-to-new-location.html

How do I determine which method we are using?

Unfortunately, this is not the best place to ask such a question.

Please note that this discussion forum is dedicated to programming Revit using the Revit API.

Therefore, you cannot expect an answer to a question such as yours relating to installation, product usage or end user support issues here.

You should try one of the non-API Revit product support discussion forums instead for that:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-api-forum/this-forum-is-for-revit-api-programming-questions-not-for/td-p/5607765

The people there are much better equipped to answer your question than us programming nerds.

I hope this clarifies.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Best regards,

Jeremy,

None of the categories available for forums to choose from seemed relevant (e.g. architecture, structure, etc.). API seemed like the best place for a general file management question. Also, mapping/paths are a more in-depth computer topic, like API programming, so I figured that the people who frequent this forum might have a better understanding of the topic.

OK, you may be right.

Personally, I know the API and nothing else, so I cannot contribute to this.

I suspect that the people in the architectural forum have the largest experience with general issues such as performance and networking and stuff, so you might want to try there as well as here.

Open up a File Explorer (the folder thing on your computer, 😀 ) Then on the left panel, you're going to see C: for your internal hard drive, then you may see some like "Projects (P:)" underneath it. Many companies use a Drive Letter to map to a network location. If you have letters underneath your C: drive location on the left panel, then you are using that method.

The second method of UNC maps to a full server address. \\servernamehere\projectnamehere\drawingfolder\ would be an example. If you type that full name in the top bar of a File Explorer, it would take you to that location.

Letter drive are a way of a shortcut to the full UNC path from my understanding.

Agree with posts above, this probably is not the best location for this. Many here are programming for Revit and do not "use" Revit on a daily basis. Those in Architecture would have a better workflow and understanding of your problems in the main Revit forum.

Hope that helps.
