topic Creating a gap in pipes/ducts where the mouse is pointing over it. in Revit API Forum

So I have a lot of requests in my company to make a gap command for pipes/ducts, that works like SL but places an opening where the mouse is pointing.

Im trying to figure out how exactly to do this.

What I figured out so far is to project a point to the MEP curve of the element,

split the curve at that point,

move the points in both directions for offset value (ex 100mm),

then use those curves to create 2 new elements for ducts/pipes.

So what i dont understand is how to project a point onto duct.

Is there a way for the api to ask the user to click on a pipe/duct, and for me somehow to get the duct/pipe that was clicked + position of the cursor.

Also what im having problems figuring out is when I split the curve into two points, how do i move that point along the curve to a set length ( so it shortens)?
