Unable to Import .las lidar data in ReCap

I am trying to scan a .las file in ReCap. All I get is a "could not import scan!" error message. Granted, the lidar data set has over 2 billion points mostly due to lots of trees. What are my options for converting this .las file into what needs to become contours of the ground plane, no trees in regular AutoCAD 2018 (don't ask, we are a small firm and it seems, decades behind).

Thank you for participating in our Community! That's pretty large size file. Is there any way you can export in small size file? Are you trying to import this file from local or network drive? Also, what version of ReCap Pro you are using?

I am using Autodesk Recap Pro, version 4.0.0.28. Unless there is a way to "export in small size file", I am stuck with what I have. In reality, my project area is about a third of the file. I would love to make it smaller and clip the data to just my limits of work.

Request the 60-day full working evaluation of DotSoft's MapWorks to run inside AutoCAD. It's Mass Points Processor will let you select your existing massive LAS file(s), select a polyline reflecting your area of interest, specify you want class 2 (ground) only, then output the results into a new much more digestible LAS (or LAZ) file.

Could you update your recap version to latest one and try again?

Also, we would like to know the las file type of your file. Las1.4 version has litmited support in ReCap.

You can download lastools.exe to get the information of your las file.
